“This is the highest elevation east of the Mississippi River. You can drive almost to the top and take a quick walk to the overlook or if you are feeling up to the challenge you can park at the restaurant and take the yellow trail to the top. WARNING – this trail, while only 2 miles is very strenuous and you should give yourself plenty of time to get to the top and back down. Check the weather before you go, the area can run 10-15 degrees cooler than Asheville.”

“The Sarah P Duke gardens is a large area just outside the Duke Campus with so much to see. You can walk anywhere and see beautiful plants, ponds, etc. We bring a lunch, find a nice spot and have a picnic while our kids explore. There are only a few bathrooms and there is duck food available at the visitors center. (No Food or water for sale unless the snack shack happens to be open)”

“Right at the foot of the Reobling Bridge there's a little something for everyone. The Carousel is absolutely beautiful and fun for adults and kids. In the summer be sure to take your swimsuit to run through the fountains, lots of green space along the river for picnics, walks, a playground, misting area and gorgeous views. Close to the Reds stadium, too. ”
