A cosy retreat from which to explore the Cotswolds. Soho Farmhouse a short drive away. Beautiful walks from the door.
    Cute old beamed cottage

    Natalie2019-03-31T00:00:00Z

Set in the traquil surroundings of Lower Nill Farm this wooden cabin has glorious views across the Cotswolds with all the amenities to make your stay a relaxing break away from hectic life. Lower Nill Farm is just a short distance from the historical village of Hook Norton. Hook Norton is famous throughout the world for its brewery which has been making beer since 1849. Lower Nill Farm is also located on the historic D'arcy Dalton way which spans the length of the county of Oxfordshire.
The Cabin is an oak framed structure complete with exposed beams/trusses and vaulted ceilings which make the space light & airy. The glazing makes the most of the views looking out to Brailes Hill and beyond, it also makes a great space to watch local wildlife. The Cabin also has a huge garden at your disposal perfect for summer BBQ's and for children to play safely. The plot is in a very peaceful part of the farm an excellent place to unplug and relax.
Lower Nill Farm is located in the spectacular Oxfordshire countryside. It's a great base to explore the Cotswolds and also historical cities and towns like Oxford, Stratford upon Avon, Warwick, Banbury, Chipping Norton and Leamington Spa. The local village, Hook Norton, is a very picturesque place where agriculture and brewing have played a huge part in the prosperity of the village. The local brewery is the home of Hook Norton ales and a huge source of local pride. A visit to the brewery shows you a process that has barely changed in 200 years in a majestic building purpose built for the serious business of making beer. Other local gems are: -Whichford pottery and the adjoining Straw Kitchen Cafe -Broughton Castle -The Rollright Stones -Upton House -Chastleton House -Blenheim Palace

Recomendado.

    Adam2018-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • Bien descrito, encantador, limpio cottage. Las imágenes no le hacen justicia. Buenas carreteras de ciclismo por todos lados. Muy aislado y nos mantendremos. Lo recomiendo!

    Jolyon2018-04-15T00:00:00Z

There is no bath but a generous shower and plenty of hot water The kitchen includes a 2 ringed hob and full size oven, fridge, cooking utensils, toaster and kettle. Tea, coffee, milk and a welcome cake will be awaiting you.
The White horse pub is a 2 minute walk and has a great menu. Breakfast can be organised by prior arrangement! The Yurt Cafe in Nicholsons plant center is perfect for morning coffee or an Al Fresco lunch. There are lovely walks staight from the house or alternatively your a 5 minute drive from the tow path of the Oxford canal in Somerton.

A brand new cabin in the grounds of our home. Fully insulated and heated with either air con or oil filled heaters. This fully self contained cabin is ideal for a short break or someone working away from home. There’s a shower room and kitchen equipped with counter fridge and combo microwave. A smart tv with Netflix and a good WiFi service.

No me puedo quejar y volveremos algún día!

Our rooms are comfortable and well presented. The rooms have lovely outlooks and our house is next to wonderful countryside walks with amazing views! There is a snug lounge for our guests. Offering T.V. B.T. Infinity for viewing movies etc and a wide selection of DVD's.

The room is equipped with a rain shower, WC, heated towel rail, and washbasin. Alcove shelving provides space for personal items, or you can light tealight candles to create a distinctively spa-like feel. (Note: there is a step up into the Wet Room from the hallway.) Bedroom Three (bunkbed room) Overlooking the front garden, the bunkbed room is a fabulous room for children, with lots of space to sleep and play. The room has a play table and chairs, an A-frame blackboard with chalks, a mini rocking horse and a pirate’s toy castle! It is a bright and airy room, but blackout blinds as well as curtains will ensure a good night’s sleep! The bedroom has a wardrobe with chest of drawers, which also houses the iron and ironing board. The second wardrobe is an airing cupboard where guests will find a travel cot, baby changing mat and clothes airer. Upstairs Mezzanine Sitting Area Stairs lead up from the Living Room to a mezzanine level close to the eaves of the Quail House. At the top of the stairs is a delightful seating area, with a two-seater sofa, double pouf, table and lamp. A telescope is positioned under a Velux skylight window, inviting you to view the stars in the inky blue sky, with little, if any, light pollution. (Instructions for the telescope are not available, please use with care.) Bedroom Two From the seating area, cross over an elevated walkway to this light and airy dual-aspect king-size bedroom, with views over the front and rear garden through Velux skylights (with blinds). The room has a beautiful, exposed Cotswold ironstone wall and is furnished with an antique desk with drawers, bedside tables with lamps, a comfy armchair and a hanging rail plus wall hooks for robes and jackets. Family Bathroom This beautiful bathroom with its contemporary Moorish styling, polished limestone flooring and tiles, roll top bath and wet room-style, walk-in shower calls out to be used for relaxation. The bath is perfectly positioned under the Velux skylights, so that guests can lie back and watch the night sky or the early morning sunrise. A washbasin is set in a pretty, retro sideboard, while the toilet is offset for privacy. A large, heated towel rail is big enough to keep several towels dry. Outside The Quail House has two immaculate, private and enclosed gardens to the front and rear of the house. Stepping in through the grey-green entrance gate from the road you’ll be greeted by five amphitheatre-style steps up to the front lawn, with a children’s play area to the right including a treehouse on 4ft stilts, a slide and a rope swing all under a beautiful ash tree, and a little wooden playhouse full of garden toys! Beyond the lawn, to the side of the entrance porch, is a patio with a small bistro-style table, chairs and a parasol. Raised borders with fragrant lavender bushes and other bee and bug-friendly plants wrap around the front of the house, providing a colourful border against the wooden frame of this beautiful 1750s barn conversion. Stepping out to the rear garden, which can be accessed through French doors in the Living Room, the Dining Area or the Master Bedroom, you will find a patio directly outside the dining area - ideal for enjoying an outdoor breakfast, lunch or supper. Step up to a raised lawn surrounded by an impressive Cotswold stone wall (at least 5ft high), then cross the lawn to another patio furnished with sofa seating and a large gas barbecue.
Local Amenities Shopping for Essentials Sandford St Martin is a beautiful but tiny Cotswold village, and so, as with many tiny villages, it does not have a pub or shop; however, there is a village shop in Middle Barton, just 1 mile away – great for an emergency pint of milk, loaf of bread and eggs. Guidebook: Chipping Norton In this Guidebook section we head over to Chipping Norton, just 8 miles from The Quail House. Tucked high up in Oxfordshire’s portion of the Cotswolds, Chipping Norton is a beautiful market town with an enviable reputation. It is the highest town in the region thanks to its stunning hillside location, with a rich history dating back to the 13th Century when it was known as a bustling wool-trading town; a heritage proven through the great wool church of St. Mary, known for its stunning interiors, and still sitting proudly at the heart of the town. Affectionately known by locals as ‘Chippy’, the town is now very much a bustling hub of culture; its thriving retail and culinary scene attracting visitors from all across the Cotswolds. A general market still takes place every Wednesday, and a Farmer’s Market is held on the morning of every third Saturday. The town is great for anyone looking to hunt for some local treats, with a plethora of independent retailers and antique shops to peruse. The town also has a good number of pubs, restaurants and cafes, whilst culture buffs will love the thriving theatre; a rare addition to a town of this size, famous for its annual pantomime and eclectic programme of music, theatre, dance and comedy. During the summer months, you can enjoy the Lido, a heated, open air, 25m pool (see below). Sightseeing & Activities Thanks to Chipping Norton’s rich heritage, there’s plenty on offer locally to see and do for culture vultures and history buffs alike. Start off by exploring the landmarks of the town itself. Take in the beautiful Town Hall (a proud symbol of the town’s former borough days), before visiting the Almshouses – one of the town’s key landmarks dating back to the first half of the 1600s, provided kindly by former resident Henry Cornish upon his death to house widows of the town. Chipping Norton Museum, located on the High Street, showcases memorable artefacts from throughout the town’s history dating all the way back to the Roman period, making it a great pit-stop for those keen to learn more about the town through the ages. Chipping Norton Theatre is also a must-visit, should there be anything that tickles your fancy playing during your stay. Further afield, the many sights and attractions of the wider Cotswolds will afford you plenty to see and do. Start off by heading to The Rollright Stones, an ancient stone circle spanning nearly 2,000 years of Neolithic and Bronze Age development located in the nearby village of Great Rollright. Just outside the town sits Bliss Tweed Mill, an impressive display of 19th Century manufacturing prowess, immediately recognisable by its iconic dome-based chimney, which makes it look more like a lavish mansion than a tweed mill. Now luxury apartments following its official closure in the 1980s, the mill is still well worth driving past as one of the town’s most famous visual landmarks. The National Trust’s Chastleton House and Garden, an ancient country house spanning 400 years of history, is also just a stone’s throw away in Moreton-in-Marsh, whilst the acclaimed Whichford Pottery is just a 15-minute drive for those in search of a pretty souvenir from their travels. Renovated in 2018, the Granary is the third of three unique conversions of 17th Century farm buildings in the grounds of an historic old vicarage in tranquil Little Tew, on the edge of the Cotswolds. The Granary offers luxury, private and comfortable accommodation for a couple to use as a base to laze or explore.
The Granary is the conversion of a 17th Century Cotswold stone grain store, offering accommodation over the first and second floors. External stairs with views over the surrounding fields lead up to the Granary’s own front door. This leads straight into a fully equipped kitchen/dining room, featuring Belfast sink, dishwasher, induction hob, electric oven and all the equipment you could need to cook up and eat a feast; with views over the Granary’s dedicated garden, the dining table will comfortably seat four. Two steps, then passed the internal oak stairs through to the cosy sitting room with wood burner and plenty of logs. Flop into the sofa and doze the day away, watching the fire, the smart tv or listening to music via your device on the Bose speaker. Alternatively pen your first novel at the desk/daydream whilst enjoying views over the walled garden. If all this proves too much, head up the stairs to the King size, white linen bedroom nestled in the eaves. Once again totally private yet with views over the walled garden and surrounding countryside rural remedy is assured. A landing with wardrobe two more steps to a laundry cupboard, with washer/dryer leads you to the luxurious bathroom with freestanding cast iron bath and loo with a view to complete the accommodation.
Easily accessible from North and South but off the beaten track, Little Tew is a small village on the edge of the Cotswolds. Discover postcard perfect Cotswold towns and villages including Burford, Stow on the Wold and neighbouring Great Tew with chocolate box cottages and the local pub the Falkland Arms. Very close, yet far enough away from Soho Farmhouse dependent on how you see it. Well situated to learn more about academic and historic Oxford. Stately days out at Blenheim Palace. Some big name retail therapy at Bicester Village. Spa treatments and organic food from the worlds smartest farm shop at Daylesford. There's much to see if you want to get out there and plenty of home comfort if you don't.

About the village The quiet and quaint Oxfordshire village of Swerford sits on the River Swere, four miles north-east of Chipping Norton. The hustle and bustle of the more popular Cotswold towns and villages has by-passed Swerford, perhaps why it is so well-preserved and picture-perfect. The village was first recorded in the Doomsday Book (1086) when Robert D’Oyley (a Norman who accompanied King William during his invasion of England) became the local landowner. The remains of a 12th century motte and bailey castle is open for visits, as well as the 13th century St Mary’s Church - partly built from stones taken from the castle. Often referred to as a ‘village in two parts’, Swerford’s Church End and East End are separated by a mile of countryside known as ‘Between Towns’. Hillside Cottage is in East End. Walkers will enjoy the easily accessible network of local footpaths, including one direct from Hillside Cottage to The Boxing Hare, and a 2.5-mile walk to the pretty village of Hook Norton. Hooky, as it’s affectionately called by locals, is well known to beer enthusiasts for its Victorian Tower brewery and delicious brews. Daily tours of the Hook Norton Brewery provide a chance to sample Hooky, Haymaker and Cotswold Pale beers - visitors may also like to eat breakfast, lunch or light meals at the Malthouse Kitchen Café and visit the free museum. Country lovers who prefer to visit the busier Cotswold towns, but stay in a quieter setting, will enjoy Hillside Cottage and Swerford’s rural charm. Sightseeing & Activities Swerford is less than 10 miles from several towns and villages, including Banbury (8.5 miles), Chipping Norton (5.3 miles) and Hook Norton (1.8 miles). The centre of Oxford is a 45-minute drive away (a handy Park & Ride is a 42-minute drive away), while several other well-known Cotswold towns and villages are within 20 miles, including Bourton-on-the-Water (17 miles), Stow-on-the-Wold (13 miles) and Moreton-in-Marsh (12.5 miles). Hillside Cottage is also conveniently located for visits to Bicester Village (18 miles), the designer outlet shopping centre, and Soho Farmhouse (4.5 miles), a popular wedding venue. Little and Big Kids Blenheim Palace Home to the 12th Duke of Marlborough and family, and birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, Blenheim Palace is a spectacular masterpiece of architecture sure to wow visitors of all ages. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, there’s plenty to see and do here: explore the Palace and its priceless collections; amble through the stunning park and gardens; get stuck in at the Family Forest School or check out the Palace’s busy schedule of events and attractions, running throughout the year. Batsford Arboretum The 56-acre arboretum at Batsford is situated just a mile west of the historic market town of Moreton-in-Marsh in the heart of the Cotswolds. A former home to the famous Mitford family, interest in the arboretum begins in late winter when the snowdrops, aconites and early flowering daffodils spring into life, followed by magnolias, hellebores, fritillaries and the beautiful Japanese ornamental cherries – stars of the show from late March until mid-April. The handkerchief tree is another show-stopper in May, as are the beautiful wildflower meadows which bloom in high summer.
