“Care for a side of socialism with that? Friendly service, leftist leanings and great food and drinks, where the activists gather to eat, subvert the system and plan the revolution. Monday Nights - Open Mic, Tuesday is Comedy Night! Several unique locations throughout DC area, but this one is five minutes away. Owned by rabid social entrepreneur and someday mayor of Washington, DC, Andy Shalal, who says Busboys is "a community where racial and cultural connections are consciously uplifted . . . a place to take a deliberate pause and feed your mind, body and soul… a space for art, culture and politics to intentionally collide . . . we believe that by creating such a space we can inspire social change and begin to transform our community and the world."”

Restaurante francés

“If you can’t get to Paris, dining at Bastille is a worthy alternative. The brasserie and bar is owned and run by the husband-and-wife team of Chefs Christophe and Michelle Poteaux, who infuse French flair into the decor and food. The menu includes mainstays like coq au vin, cassoulet, and escargots, as well as more avant-garde creations like shrimp beignets with spicy guacamole. During the week, opt for a “French Quickie” -- two courses for lunch in the bar and café space.”

“European-style bakery with pastries and desserts. They have a small area with tables for coffee and a snack or you can pick up their treats for take away.”

Tienda gourmet

“This is a hybrid market/restaurant from Chef Cathal Armstrong, the pride and joy of Alexandria and one of the best chef’s in the region. This is a good coffee and pastry choice for breakfast, but also superb for a sandwich lunch and casual dinner. I wouldn’t expect whole cuts of steak or fish fillets, but instead dishes like Beef Bourguignon and Seafood Stew. The wine list is excellent due to Todd Thrasher, a local celebrity mixologist, being in charge of the beverage program.”

“I have been coming here for decades! Some of the best chili around and sure to please. Relaxed and casual. They have a selection of different chili's that comes with cornbread and is perfect to wash down with a cold beer. Is the Ford truck with the horse parked out front on the day you visit? The horse is in the Scottish Christmas Walk Parade every year and I used to decorate him too. :-) ”
