River & jungle view in the heart of a little village in the foothills of the Mountain Pine Ridge. 3.5 miles from San Ignacio. Private deck, & outdoor kitchen facilities. We are a non-smoking property. The casita is fully screened.
The Lime Tree Casita is a stand-alone cabin - lovingly built by hand, by us and some local friends & neighbors. It was initially meant to be a guest house for family & friends, but everyone said it was too special not to share with others!
The building is made of local hardwoods and local pine from Mountain Pine Ridge. The casita is fully screened. There is a custom-made mahogany queen bed and hardwood night stands. The covered deck overlooks the property with a peak at the Macal River and hillside beyond. There are birds everywhere & of every kind!
There is a separate outdoor kitchen/dining area for the private use of our guests. It is not inside the cabin - as just boiling water would heat the entire room! Even our own kitchen is 'outside.' :-) The outdoor kitchen is a few steps away from the casita.
Disponible para huéspedes
Guests have access to the 1.5 acre property, which includes a genuine Mayan mound (yes, you WILL find Mayan pottery, guaranteed!) but you have to leave it behind.
Other features include an outdoor dining area/kitchen with a full-size frig and grill. There is also a sink and 4-burner gas stove. Plans are to eventually add a wood burning oven.
We've recently added two raised garden beds where we grow herbs and vegetables. You are welcome to anything ready to harvest! Herbs growing include, basil (several varieties), parsley, marjoram, oregano, garlic chives, tarragon, lemon balm, dill, catnip, sage, rosemary & mint! Veggies include tomatoes, onions, lettuce, hot peppers, and more!
The casita has a spacious private covered deck, with a hammock, dining table/4 chairs and extra lounge seating for two. There is also a private stone courtyard area.
There is a 2-person kayak available at no extra charge, as well as two inner tubes for use on the Macal River - which is in our backyard!
Atención a los huéspedes
If you don't rent a car we can help you arrange transportation from the airport.
We have three dogs that have full access to the property - and Milo (the youngest and largest dog) likes to spend time with guests on the deck....
We are early risers, and can usually be found on our deck each morning sipping coffee. There is a french press & coffee beans available in the outdoor kitchen for you (no extra charge). We grind the beans each morning, ready for you to brew when you're ready. Usually, our guests' tours take them away from the property most of the day - but we are usually around to answer questions, provide directions, etc.
If it's privacy you want - we are fine with that. If you want to chat about Belize, we're up for that too. If you want to experience the local flavor, we can certainly provide recommendations!
Otros aspectos destacables
Belize requires all legal accommodations to be licensed. Our License # is 2078. There are a LOT accommodations here that are not licensed (a few in our village) - so please ask before booking, if the listing doesn't mention the BTB license#.
Please note that we are required to collect 9% sales tax upon your arrival. AirBnB does not collect the tax nor adds it to the price of the reservation. If we added the tax to the room rate, you would pay AirBnB's commission on it and we don't think that's fair. We do not charge any additional cleaning fees, service fees or automatic gratuities.
No open flames permitted in/near the casita. Also, no food, drinks, wrappers, etc., permitted inside the casita. This is a jungle and the jungle bugs (mostly ants) LOVE food and have an amazing jungle communication network to share new sources of food with!
We are a member of 'Pack for a Purpose' - we collect donated supplies for two local organizations - Cayo Animal Welfare Society and the Cristo Rey R.C. Village School. If you are interested in packing some supplies for either of these organizations, let us know and we'll refer you to our website with a list of needed items.
Cristo Rey Village is in the jungle region of Belize. While this provides incredible beauty and natural wonders, it also means that heat, humidity, sudden tropical squalls, power outages and water outages are not uncommon (However, we do have a back-up generator, and back-up water pump).
We have recently upgraded our free wi-fi service on the property and in the casita. The service is now available everywhere on the property. It is fast and reliable on all devices we & our guests have tested/used!
We strive for a calm, serene & relaxing environment; and most of the time it is just that. However, the local birds are very active as daylight breaks, and the Howler Monkeys can be a bit startling at night. We are also in the middle of a small, but active village. Sometimes the neighboring roosters, dogs, church music, etc. can be heard. For those guests who are extremely noise sensitive please keep these things in mind.
We don't really like rules, but to make everyone's experience better there are a few expectations that are important to know.
Please note that this is a totally non-smoking property.
We have three dogs, they are all friendly, and if you are a 'dog-person' you will LOVE them!
Rooms will be cleaned & sheets/towels replaced etc., after three nights, unless otherwise arranged in advance. There will be an additional charge if additional cleaning, towels, etc., are requested.
We don't mind extra people on the property as long as we know in advance about any extra guests you plan to invite to our property (even if just to visit). We cannot accommodate more than two overnight guests, so please do not invite additional guests to stay overnight. We don't mind small get-togethers, BBQs, etc... - but please, no loud or large parties, etc....
Please note that an Accommodation tax of 9% is not included in the quoted rates, and AirBnB does not include them in your total. We will collect the tax upon your arrival. (HINT: If a Belize lodging owner is not collecting this tax, they are most likely not licensed by the Belize Tourism Board).
Liability insurance is not required in Belize, so please note that you are responsible for your well-being while in country.
We (Jeff & Cheryl) moved to the 'wilds' of Belize from the 'wilds' of Minnesota in 2014. Since moving to Belize we purchased some land on the Macal River, built our own home, and one guest casita (so far).
We have extensive experience in the hospitality industry with over 33 years of combined experience at Walt Disney World and another 10+ years of joint experience in owning our own restaurant, herb farm and Bed & Breakfast in the states. We definitely know what it means to exceed our guests' expectations!
We're pretty laid back, and can spend as much or as little time interacting with you as you want. We are happy to answer any questions you have about the area - even before booking with us. But of course, we'd love to have you choose us as your Belize destination in the Cayo region!
