Patmos off Season is at its best! Away from all the buzz. Stay in a live museum mansion in the heart of Chora, where you can get the experience of living in an original 19 th century space. Most furniture, art pieces and everyday items have been in this house since then...however you can keep up with "your world" with unlimited Internet!

Visit Patmos for the International Film Festival IFFP this July 21-27 and stay at the mansion (built in 1811) which is right in the heart of the main village of the island, Chora which is a Unesco heritage site, a protected medieval settlement, closely built around the imposing Monastery of St John the Baptist, and overlooking the harbor of Patmos. The Cave of the Apocalypse (where the Book of the Apocalypse was written) lies between Chora and the harbor, Skala. The location of Chora offers many opportunities for walking to many areas of the island, such as Skala, the seaside village of Grikos (and the best beach, Psilli Ammos), as well as the tallest mountain of Prophet Elias.
The house is close to shops, restaurants and is easily accessible from the entrance of the village (just a few steps from the main street). The views from nearly all the windows of the house and also from the unique veranda of the second floor and the terrace are breathtaking.
The mansion has been reconstructed from the owner architect. It expands in four levels with 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms (with shower), 1 WC, 2 large living rooms, a separate large kitchen, a large entrance room and a protected from the winds courtyard with table + chairs and flowers. The house is offered to max. 7 people, so they can all have privacy and ample room. The house keeper, will be coming every day to clean and make the beds. Cleaning is compulsory. Her fee is on top of the rent and will be agreed with guests before booking since will be payed cash directly to her.
The Archontiko was built in 1811 by Nikolaos Hadjigeorgiou, a master builder from the island of Kos. During the Greek War of Independence (1821), when Patmos was briefly freed from Turkish rule, the house functioned as the headquarters of the Greek governor of the island. Since the 1870s the house is the residence of a private family, inherited from mother to daughter to the modern day. The house has been restored with great care, in order to provide comfort while keeping with the historic character of the original building. Original wall details were uncovered, en-suite bathrooms were added, the kitchen was restored in its pre-1950s style, and a secluded garden courtyard was created for windy days.
Minimum rental is 5 days.
A historical note: Houses facing the northern front of Chora settlement date originally from the 17th century, and were typically re-built in the nineteenth century by Patmian merchants and shipowners who brought back various objects from their travels around the world. The splendid location of these houses was a source of social display, and provided excellent views of the gulf of Skala, where inhabitants could see the ships of their kin sail into the harbor. Embroideries and other decorative objects were made by women, managing the houses while their husbands were away. Like other historic houses of this period, the Archontiko is furnished with original pieces of furniture and decorative objects assembled and handcrafted during the two centuries of its history, and arranged according to an austere Patmian layout.
A quick tour of the house: There is an entrance room with two sofas and a fireplace, as you enter the large main original wooden door of 1811. On the same floor, there is a guest bathroom (WC), the formal sitting room, the kitchen, a storage pantry with fridge and a washing machine, and the "Lonely girl's" bedroom with a queen size bed and an en-suite bathroom (all bathrooms have showers). A stone staircase leads upstairs to the large 30 sq.m. veranda (with stone benches and pillows, 2 comfortable chaise longues and room for two large dining tables, with splendid views to the sea and the monastery of St John the Theologian. From this veranda you enter into the large second floor living room with painted decoration on walls and with doors leading: to the Windmill bedroom with a queen size bed and an en-suite bathroom, to the two-storey Ondas room with a king size bed on the mezzanine, and to the patio with the small single bed room with built in bed. There is also a "tower like" structure with stairs that lead to a small bedroom (single bed 0.90 X 1.90. I have not included this as a "bedroom" since this room is tiny and the bed small) and through this to the terrace of the house where you can have a 180 degrees view of the island!

Unlimited local phones, Internet access and wifi

I am not in the island while you will be in the house, however I am always available through emails or telephone to give you tips for an unforgettable stay. Also cleaning of the house for around 3 hours every day is NOT included in the rent but it is obligatory. Please ask me for this cost, before booking.

The Mansion is at the same time central and off centre. It is in the heart of Chora, but not near the main square where there are the two bars and and "noisy" life of the village! The mini market and fruit market is just in front of the house, so you do not have to carry your shopping far. You can even bring your car in front of the house to unload your suitcases etc and then take it back to the parking area (no parking fees).

There is a public bus, but taxis are also very convenient and not expensive if you want to move around the island. I suggest to rent bikes or a car for your convenience.

There is unlimited internet and wifi in the house. Also local phones are for free through our landline. Cleaning fee is compulsory and it is ON TOP of the rent. Please ask for fee before your booking.
we can help you rent a car or a scooter, organize boat trips and also suggest alternative ways of reaching the island in order to make your trip to Patmos easy. (e.g you could fly to Cos directly from a European destination and then have only a 2.20 hour boat trip to Patmos!) MHTE 1468K92000418801

Acceso para huéspedes
The house is not ideal for guests with difficulties in stairs. All rooms and verandas that are described in the listing are accessible to guests. There is a separate room (a pantry) with entrance from the kitchen which is not accessible to guests since it is used for storage. Also there is a small room at the patio which is used for storage and is not accessible. The rooftop of the house (not the veranda) has a low balustrate so guests must be careful when kids access it. Organizing a party there is not permitted.
