Please note, you are on an island and in a jungle. Though our hale is clean and maintained nicely, there are geckos, and the occasional visit from ants and other jungle creatures. The location of this place is great and the hosts are very nice. The place is spacious and well-stocked. Several reviewers have discussed the noise, so I won't comment on that except to agree that earplugs are a must if you're a light sleeper like me. The place could have been cleaner, and the openness made for a number and variety of bug visitors that was daunting even for this camper/backpacker, especially at night in the bedroom. My experience was positive overall, but in my opinion, a few small improvements are in order.

The place is as described. The windows are just screens, but for the location, it was perfect for allowing the breeze and air in and out. The house is a little removed; if you are looking to be in walking distance to anything this isn't the place for you. But it is perfect for getting away and disconnected from the "real world" (no cell service). This is the perfect house to stay at for making your way over to Uncle Robert's on Wednesday nights though! What a fun place! Overall, it was exactly what we needed for our trip and we would stay again. The neighbor, Joe, is very pleasant and helpful if you have any question or concerns. He recommended a couple local places that were very relaxing and enjoyable, such as the warming pool down the road. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and Tamara's place was a great place to stay.

We had a great time in Big Island. We stayed for 10 days and wanted a quiet vacation away from the crowds. Tamara's place was absolutely perfect. the neighborhood was quiet and we loved listening to the jungle sounds at night as well as the rain. The kitchen was very nicely equipped which was perfect as we ate breakfast and cooked dinner at the house. We had a great and relaxing time and would definitely come back and stay at Tamara's place.

Quiet, tucked away house deep on the east side of the island. Perfect place if you're looking for something in a more jungle area away from the city. In a central location for amazing hiking locations. Had a full kitchen and was way nicer and way bigger than the pictures made it seem. Definitely a steal on the island.

The place is well described and very comfortable. We enjoyed the open air feel of the house and the quietness of the neighborhood in the evenings. We were very thankful that you had a crock pot for us to use as well as all the gadgets necessary to prepare meals. The location was wonderful to Kalapana, Kapoho, the warm pond and Uncle Roberts. Thanks for the stay!

My friend and I stayed at Tamara's place for six nights in mid-February and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. We used the apartment primarily just as a place to shower/sleep/eat while we spent most of our time driving around and exploring the island. Here's a run-down of our experience: What we loved: -Very clean (the shower is SPOTLESS, it's amazing.) -Well stocked (cooking and cleaning supplies, extra pillows and blankets, a sleeping bag, towels, shampoo and conditioner, fans, a landline telephone) -Spacious! (you can't quite tell from the pictures, but it's really quite roomy) -Pretty decent wifi -The bedsheets and bed are suuuuuper comfy -The futon folds out into a full (queen?) sized bed, and also the living room that it's in has sliding doors that close for more privacy - basically a second room -An amazing view of the stars at night outside -Great ventilation throughout the apartment. Fresh island air 24/7! A little nippy on the coolest nights, but not bad. -Stunning ocean views (when it's light outside) from Highway 137 while driving to/fro the apartment -The occasional gecko visit. Cute little guys! What we didn't expect: -Check-in was somewhat confusing; we were under the impression, based on the listing, that we would be greeted upon arrival with the key. Instead, we just ended up walking into the apartment and found the key with a welcome binder on the kitchen counter. Easy enough, but would have been nice to know beforehand. -Because there are no windows, you hear *everything* that goes on outside. Normally this isn't too distracting, but if you're a light sleeper or don't like the idea of being so close to nature, this may not be for you. I personally didn't mind the frogs, but my friend was more bothered by them. You can also hear the neighbors downstairs talking, though it's not entirely audible. -On a similar note, if you are in the bedroom and it rains, you are in for a percussive experience. Like a reviewer mentioned before, it really does sound like loud drumming right above your head, and this was enough to wake me up intermittently (even though the frogs didn't). Ear plugs highly recommended. -I'm not sure if it belongs to anyone, but we entertained regular visits from an orange cat with cataracts in both eyes. She (we think it's female) just showed up literally 30 seconds after we walked in the first night and continued to do so each night we were there. There's a kitty door next to the door, so maybe she's Tamara's? She didn't have a collar or other identification we could see. Either way, she's very friendly but will demand petting, food, and drink via insistent meowing. She's a really beautiful cat though and purrs nonstop. Keep the kitty door locked if you are allergic or don't like cats. -The apartment is very difficult to find the first time, especially at night. There is no reception (at least for our metroPCS and AT&T phones) for...

We stayed here for 7 days while exploring the Puna area. Many things to do nearby: snorkeling at the boat ramp and Kapoho Tide Pools, lunch at Kalani, evening meal at Uncle Roberts, juggling night at SPACE, sunbathing, hikes and more. We liked the open air feel of the unit, with screen windows on four sides and great views to the surrounding greenery. Like other reviews mentioned, the bedroom nook is roofed with corrugated plastic, so it's quite loud when it rains. Bring your earplugs! But we found it was a fine trade-off to have moon light coming through the ceiling on the clear nights and day light during the day. Also, we appreciated the blender for fruit smoothies.
