Swiss Cottage is over 100 years old and is situated in Glencar Valley, with wonderful views down to Glencar Lough and King's Mountain. Check out this link for some very exciting news about the area:
(August 2020) https://www.irishtimes.com/news/environment/prehistoric-site-discovered-at-lake-on-sligo-leitrim-border-1.4334157?mode=amp

In the ownership of the same family for 80 years, it is a well-loved home, rather than a 'holiday let'.
One well behaved dog is permitted.

El alojamiento
Refurbished to a very high standard, decorated and fitted with new carpets and furniture throughout, Swiss Cottage is a warm and welcoming old house, set in beautiful Glencar on the borders of counties Sligo and Leitrim.
There are two double bedrooms (one also has a single bed) plus bathroom upstairs and a single bedroom downstairs with ensuite bathroom.
Wake up to the sound of the stream rushing past below your window and enjoy your breakfast in the south-facing porch with magnificent views of the valley and King's Mountain. Later on, head off to see any of the myriad attractions the area has to offer.
When the weather dictates (this is the north western edge of Europe after all!), settle down with a good book in front of the open fire and later still, snuggle down in comfortable beds with luxurious bed linen, to end another relaxing Irish day.

Acceso para huéspedes
With the exception of the owners' two cupboards, guests will have access to the whole house and the garden. See 'House Rules'.
Guests must provide fuel (logs or coal) for the open fire and the log burner which is available at every petrol station.

Otros aspectos destacables
If guests are not using the central heating (particularly in warmer months) hot water is available independently by simply switching on the immersion heater, but PLEASE remember to switch it OFF! It has occasionally been left on for weeks between bookings!
Central heating oil is metered and we ask guests to use it economically. There is an electric heater in the downstairs bedroom which can be moved around.
Please be as frugal as possible with electricity, by not leaving the immersion heater on constantly (as previously mentioned) and turning off lights when you are out.

Where do we start? From the cottage you can see the Devil’s Chimney - the highest waterfall in Ireland. When the wind blows from the south, the water is blown backwards as it tumbles over the precipitous ledge. Walk to the ‘Tea Shed’ at Glencar Lough and the waterfall made famous in W.B Yeats' poem 'The Stolen Child'. See Yeats’ grave and epitaph at nearby Drumcliffe Church and call in to another of his haunts, Lissadell House, home of the formidable Independence campaigner Constance Gore-Booth who became Countess Markievich.
Beaches - there are so many! Lissadell, Rosses Point, Rossnowlagh in Donegal (surfing school) and Strandhill (famous for surfing and the famous 'Shells' café). Also Streedagh (on the Spanish Armada trail), Mullaghmore with it's picturesque harbour and boat trips. Sea fishing trips are also available from Rosses Point from which you’re bound to see the bottle-nosed dolphins in Sligo Bay.
Walk the wooded shores of Lough Gill at Hazel Wood with its Sculpture Trail and discover the tiny Lake Isle of Innisfree, inspiration for another of Yeats' universally renowned poems. Take a trip on the lake from Parkes' Castle - George the boat owner was seen recently reciting Yeats' poetry on national TV! But don’t forget to visit Parkes’ Castle itself. The interpretive short film shown at the start of your visit there is an amazing introduction to the area and its history.
Drive to Leitrim village (nr Carrick on Shannon) and hire bikes (electric bikes also available) and cycle along sections of the Shannon-Erne waterway.
Pop over the border into Fermanagh and visit any of the three wonderful National Trust properties near Enniskillen (Florence Court, Castle Coole and the Crom Estate) or visit the magnificent Marble Arch Caves which are part of the cross border Cuilcagh Geopark.
Whether you're a fisherman/woman, golfer, surfer, mountain climber, walker, cyclist, birdwatcher, nature lover, wild swimmer, sailor, canoeist, musician, writer, poet, lover of good food and a glass of Guinness, it's all here waiting for you!
