Large post and beam cabin nestled in standing hardwood and evergreen setting. Private gravel roads will offer wonderful seclusion when you retire to your vacation home. Private, sandy beach and nice fishing shoreline only a stroll away.

The Hermitage is about 1/4 mile from the shoreline of Deep Creek and the community has about 1/2 mile of frontage on Deep Creek Lake with a sandy beach area, boat docks, and picnic area and parking at the trailhead to the waterfront. Reasonable walk from Hermitage or short drive and park at the trailhead. There is generally a boat slip available for rent from the Sky Valley community and the rental office can help you with that if you desire. There are 2nd home owner neighboring cabins; however all properties are in a forested setting and on oversized lots (meaning pretty good privacy).

Very good question as Deep Creek Lake is one of the wonderful outdoor attractions that Garrett County has to offer (certainly many other attractions are primed for your exploration as well... Maryland's Tallest Mountain, Highest free-falling water fall, largest State Forest, only Downhill ski slope, only mountaintop artificial river in the world, and most intense whitewater river - The Youghiogheny River - and oh, so much more!). Of course The Hermitage has access to a lovely, sandy beach and grassy area long the water's edge along with picnic tables. Further there are dock slips which can often be rented separately from the Sky Valley Community (we are happy to help arrange); many folks like to take advantage of Deep Creek State Park which is about 15 minutes away from The Hermitage.

Minimum Age:
The minimum age for the guest who signs the license agreement and will be staying in the house is 24 years of age. With a valid military ID 21 years of age.

Driver's License:
Guest must supply a picture of their driver's license (usually email from smartphone) verifying age and name must match credit card used.

State and County Accommodation Tax:
Maryland charges 6% and Garrett County charges 6%. A total of 12% tax will be collected directly by our property manager upon your booking.

The designated ‘max-occupancy’ of this rental home is 12. This occupancy level does not apply to children 2 years of age or younger. If overcrowding occurs during any time of the reservation immediate eviction is probable with no refund due.

Family Policy:
The responsible guest must be 24 or older and must be a part of the lodging party. We do require a copy of the driver’s license to be on file verifying age. We generally rent to family groups only. Fraternities, Sororities, Bachelor parties, unless previously approved by me in advance, are prohibited from renting our homes. If I approve such a group there is likely to be an extra security deposit and an inspection planned on day of guest departure with guest present. It is after this joint inspection is completed that a return of the security deposit may be made if all in order.

Holiday Weekends - price bump: While holiday weekends are a great time to escape to Deep Creek Lake, we do require a 3-night minimum stay and, we reserve the right to waive these standards for last minute reservations.

On-site Property Management:
We employ Offlake Rentals to assist us in caretaking of the home and also of our guests. They will facilitate all necessary paperwork and inspections to keep us in compliance with State and County zoning guidelines. I will remain available via AirBnB throughout your experience; however we rely on Offlake Rentals to assist me to ensure maximum care of our guests.

Pet Fee: For those guests wishing to bring Fido along, there is a $65 pet fee that will be collected directly by the property manager when they assist you in completing your reservation paperwork.

We were very disappointed with this rental home. Upon arrival, we instantly were surprised with how close the home was to neighboring homes as it was advertised as secluded. It was also on the neighborhood's main road so cars were coming by the home often. The house was very dark and half of the lamps were missing bulbs. All of the furniture was covered in a layer of dust and dead bugs and there was a musty odor that made me believe it was not cleaned well or often and there may have been a moisture issue. Most of the furniture was tattered and one of the reclining chairs was broken - we found this out when my husband almost flipped over when he leaned back in it. The king size bed did not have a blanket large enough for it. The large deck would have been nice had it been better cared for. It was slippery because some kind of algae was growing on it and some of the boards seemed to be rotting so they bowed a bit when you walked on them. It clearly needed a good pressure washing and treatment. This home was much too expensive for the condition of the home and location. We have stayed in MUCH nicer places that are right on the lake and paid less.

I am so very sorry that you did not have as good of an experience as we wish you had. Indeed Hermitage is an older cabin that we work very hard to keep in good condition; however there can be issues that need addressed and we sometimes don't catch them but do appreciate when a guest informs us. The cabin absolutely DOES NOT sit on 'the main community road' (Sky Valley Rd) but rather on a side road (Ridge Rd). It does sit on an acre of land so generally guests do find a cabin on an acre of wooded land to be rather private but still convenient to Deep Creek Lake. I must say that neither the rental office or myself via AirBnB messaging received any notice if dissatisfaction during your stay and we wish we had. We always would prefer to 'make right' any deficiencies during a guest stay that we can (such as the burned out lightbulbs you mention - we purposely keep extra lights over the fridge in the event one burns out during guest stay and would have even sent maintenance to the cabin if that would have helped). We aren't sure how there was a 'layer of dust' on all of the furniture as the cabin has had constant guest visits all summer and it seems as though other guests (who generally left a very positive review) would have mentioned this to us? The decor is a bit dated we concede; however we do try to keep it up and appreciate your letting us know about the recliner problem as we were unaware of this and will send maintenance out tomorrow to address! The king bed blanket - odd as again we have had multiple guests utilize the king bed this summer with no problem but we will certainly look into it - perhaps someone moved the blankets around? The basement (no real finished space there - just a game table area) can get musty in the summer (as most basements in our County do) but we try to minimize that by have a dehumidifier running regularly; however sometimes guests may unplug/turn off the dehumidifier and that may have occured? When maintenance is at the cabin tomorrow to address these other issues we will ask them to verify all is good there. Again Katarina, we so wish you would have contacted us during your stay so that we could take measures to 'make right' any deficiencies that you found. The rental office (I verified with them that they had not received any calls of issues from you during your stay) stated that you had difficulty finding the docks and they gave you directions over the phone - that would have been a great time to mention to them any issues that you found substandard. We in no way lay fault with you that the house didn't meet your expectations; however we do wish to be notified during your visit of issues so that we can get them resolved.

The location is very secluded, so come prepared with any materials you may need because shops are difficult to find/aren't very close. Overall, this was a nice house that worked well for our group, I would recommend it

We were a family of 12 and the house was spacious enough for all of us (and one dog). The drive-way is big and can easily fit more than 3 cars (we travelled in 3 cars with leftover space). On our third day we took advantage of the nice weather, fired up the grill and ate outside on the large table at the deck. There are a few things I wish had been better to improve our stay. When we arrived I walked around the house to check things out and make note of anything. We found a burnt bread in the mini oven and one of the armchairs had old cereal on and around it on the floor. The thing that bothered us the most was the leaking ceiling. We arrived so late on Friday that I wish I had been told this was a possible issue seeing as how it was raining all day. The small bed in the master bedroom was wet from how much water had leaked on it; we had to remove the comforter and the mattress cover. The kids enjoyed the games available in the basement but it smelled so strong of mold most of us weren't able to even go down there.

Daniela, I am so happy that the crazy rain stopped in time for your family to be able to enjoy some of our great outdoor amenities! We did have a roofer 'make repairs' to the shingles due to a leak and he advised to leave the 2" hole in the ceiling with a rag to monitor to ensure the leak was properly repaired - I am so sorry that you were not made aware of that prior to your visit. More importantly I do not find it AT ALL acceptable that the bed was wet (wasn't aware of a leak in that area) and my not being notified. I am contacting the roofer to have him address promptly - my sincere apologies. I will also ask a contractor to address the dehumidifier. I do know that with all of the recent rains (6" in 1 day - CRAZY!!!) that many basements in Garrett County are 'moist' and have that odor. My apologies for your dealing with that but we are going to ensure that it is not an ongoing problem and that the moisture control method is sufficient. Again, thanks for being our guest and we appreciate your feedback!

Awesome wrap around deck amongst the trees! We also enjoyed the ping pong table in the basement as well as the fire pit in the back yard. My whole family felt very comfortable.
