The hostel is nice and located in a quiet neighborhood. I was able to relax and also meet travelers from all over parts of the world. The hostel is as described. Kathy and David are nice and responsive. I will be going back there at the end of my North Island adventures.

It was nice to stay at the beautiful home with Kathy and some of my friends. The environment is very quiet, and it is within walking distance to the vibrant Onehunga community ( around 25 mins walk).

Very interesting experience with Kathy and her 'homestay' and her way of handling things... First personal impression of the female host was good. I was able to move in very spontaneously and both hosts were friendly and welcoming. But after a while you just feel like the female host is just after the money. David is not involved in anything at all. Worse: kitchen times were restricted. You were asked for not to use the kitchen after breakfast and before dinner time. Although she said it's not a problem to make a sandwich or so, I have to admit. Even worse: The pricing for the different rooms is a bit... interesting. Prices change during the process of booking and a bed in the dorm room is just $1 cheaper than a single room. WiFi doesn't work in some of the rooms by the way. Yes, breakfast is nice. Bicycles are provided. Sorroundings are okay and safe. Best experience: I accidently broke a chopping board when K. was on holidays and I immediately told David and wrote a nice note to K. and left her chocolates. David said I could be glad Kathy is not here at the moment. Didn't expect he means it... But when I cancelled my next reservation and asked for a refund, she kept $28 ('for the broken board'). She didn't even tell me even we were in e-mail contact, just left less money with my friend who is still staying there. That's not good manners either, Kathy! Many other funny stories to tell, but that might already give you an impression how things are running in this Christian household.

Respuesta de Kathy And David:
We allowed this guest to check in early, store her belongings at our place while she went to Tonga, saying she was booking our place on her return. We don't normally offer storage as part of our service. She changed her mind & booked elsewhere, prevailing upon another one of our guests to collect her luggage to bring to her. We refunded her cancelled booking. She did not inform me by email( I was away by that point visiting family for Easter) about the breakage in my kitchen, a glass board with great sentimental value which I needed to replace. If I had known I would have asked her to replace it.The mere $28 I charged for this was completely reasonable. I have never charged guests for breakage of simple things, cups plates etc, I make no issue of it whatsoever but this situation was different. Regarding the kitchen, because we are a home not a backpackers, we use the kitchen during the daytime when I need to cook, maybe for 2 hours I keep the kitchen to use myself , but guests can cook freely in the mornings & evenings using all the kitchen equipment. Half of the time I wasn't there anyway so the guests had free use of it! 99.9% of our guests love this place, are happy to observe the basic rules of courtesy in another person's home, but it seems that every now & then someone just doesn't get it & turns on you...over resenting paying for a breakage caused by her, which most would expect to do.I think Bella's hurtful accusation of me being "money hungry" was a mere projection of her own heart. I hope this clarifies should anyone read the review.
