The upstairs suite is a self-contained 1 bedroom unit, with private bathroom and shared kitchen. You have your own space and privacy in a traditional Balinese compound, and an open deck leading from the bedroom gives a view out over the treetops.

Escape the crowds and traffic jams in Ubud and stay nearby in a small village on the other side of the Sacred Monkey Forest, a short walk away.

Your one-bedroom flat is on the upstairs floor of the house, with a good sized open deck for yoga, meditation or writing. The flat is self-contained with a separate bathroom with hot shower and Western-style toilet. There is a shared kitchen on the ground floor. The bedroom is lockable for security, with fan cooling and a double bed with mosquito net. Sheets and towels are provided.

The flat is designed for 1-2 people only.

The flat's location inside a Balinese family compound offers good security so you don't need to worry about break-ins or theft, which are on the rise around Ubud.

In Bali, whole extended families live together in small compounds. Their day starts early, usually before dawn, with a mandi, or cold water wash, before cooking all the food for the day. You may hear the ibu’s (or Mums) in the family heading out to the early-morning market on a motorcycle. You'll also hear the dawn chorus of roosters crowing as the village wakes to another day around you. If you're sensitive to noise, you may wish to use earplugs.

Living in a Balinese compound, while generally quiet during the day, involves the noise of families living together. On occasion, people may play radios or you may hear kids practicing flute or gamalan. Be prepared to hear the noise of people and animals around you - remember, you're a guest in their family compound.

As the space is open, sometimes geckos and small lizards will come in, as well as the neighborhood cats. You may also see tropical cockroaches, which are larger than the ones in the West. This is normal in Bali and its impossible to keep all the animal life out. The geckos are harmless.

Please remember you are visiting a developing country. This means that many things may not be what you are likely used to at home. Your experience of Bali will be much more positive if you can stay flexible, tolerant, open to new and different experiences and keep a sense of humour.

Please be aware that power blackouts happen on a regular basis in Bali, due to the rapid development. If power goes out, it is usually on again in a few hours, but in rare instances, may be off overnight. Emergency candles and flashlights are provided.

The wifi is 'Bali speed' - that is, it may slow down without warning. If you need dedicated wifi for working, HUBUD shared working space with high speed internet is a 20 minute walk through the Monkey Forest.

We spent a lovely week at Eka's place in May/June of 2017, it was quiet, charming, and nicely located. We liked it so much, we tried to stay for another week, but someone else had already booked the next available dates : ( ABOUT THE ACCOMMODATION The room is very spacious and comprises the upper floor of a little two-storey structure at the back of a traditional Balinese family compound, and there is a little shared kitchen on the ground floor. I was really happy with the size of the room - two people can get a little in each others' way over time, but this was perfect : there was loads of room on either side of the bed, and a very large balcony/sit-out with two chairs and a coffee table and a drying rack. There was a big cupboard, so it was easy to settle in, and a large desk and chair, which was great because we had to work while travelling. If I'm making it sound like the room was cluttered - it definitely wasn't, there was loads of space to walk around, keep stuff, etc. The bathroom was simple and clean, with the sink just outside the door (I always find this useful when people are at different stages of getting ready). And last but not least, the WiFi was really fast and largely reliable. The room on the ground floor is similarly sized and slightly cheaper, but the view of the trees and frangipani from the upper floor is lovely. ABOUT THE HOSTS The compound has a number of family members living in it - they are all very friendly and very quiet. Ibu Eka speaks very good English, and communication was a big plus. Everyone is extremely respectful of your privacy, and the rooms are right at the back of the compound, and tucked away from everything and very private. The cleaning is thorough and happens every other day, and Eka and her friends who help out are extremely quick to help with any questions or requests. ABOUT THE ANIMALS Apart from a number of caged birds, there are a couple of ponds full of fish, and a few adorable little cats that are curious but petrified of people, and to be found staring longingly at the birds with expressions that say "I wonder how I can open these cages..." There's also a beautiful retriever-mix dog, who is friendly, but very lazy and just not suited to the weather - you will often find him wagging his tail at you from a distance, summoning you to pet him because he's definitely not going to move. ABOUT THE LOCATION The compound is in the village of Nyuh Kuning, which is a beautiful spot. It's quiet, green, full of nice places to eat, and a short walk to main Ubud town (Hanoman Road) via the Monkey Forest path. If you're planning to do Yoga, then the Ubud Yoga Centre is very close by. There's also a...

Eka's homestay was a wonderful Bali experience for us. We had one week in Ubud and enjoyed it - thanks to Eka'a hospitality - very much. Her house is away from tourist noise in a beautiful neighbourhood yet close to the centre and right next to a splendid vegan restaurant and a lot of local shops. This place is highly recommendable if you visit Ubud to relax, do Yoga and get to know Bali. By the way, the monkey forest is just 10minutes away walking distance and absolutely worth visiting or even passing by while going into town.

We had an amazing stay at Eka's place. We wanted to be near the Ubud Yoga Center, and it is only a short walk away. It is a secluded, airy space and we felt very relaxed. The bed is huge, firm, very comfortable, has a bug net. The deck is great for reading on and also for drying clothes. The wifi worked very well for us, and we were doing work with it so we were pleased about that. There is a great restaurant named Sage down the street, and it is about 15 mins to the monkey forest, and maybe 30 mins to the center of Ubud (walking.) We loved our stay and would absolutely come back!

I love how close Eka's place to Sage (an awesome vegan restaurant) and Ubud Yoga Centre. The room is simple and clean. The wifi is good and fast. Eka and Izzie are so friendly. I suggest to use the mosquito net at night.
