The cemetery that surrounds this Craftsmen 4 room School House is located in the midst of one of the most gorgeous historic cemeteries in all of America, and a short 15 minute walk to the Town square. Tailored after the cemeteries in Europe, it was created as a park to entice visitors. These are classrooms with many large eastern facing window making it a very bright space early in the morning ... we haven't yet figured out the shade/curtain situation,... is is still dark at night for those who like sleeping in total darkness but it does let in the morning light with the rising of the Sun.
ALSO: Please keep in mind that this listing is the very essence of the uniqueness that defines Airbnb. It is an old building with all that implies. Built in 1900 it was a school for 50 to 60 years, then a Tool Factory. Bought in the 90's by Artist & NYC Art Dealer Robert Pardo as an experimental Museum, Exhibition & Studio Space, it has hosted many Artist in Residence & provided them alternative live work space over the years.
It retains its original charm even with the additions of kitchen and bathroom to each "classroom" BUT this place is still most recommended for the young & adventurous at heart and not advised for those looking for a generic & steril hotel room type stay. You CAN lick the floors ( not kidding, I use Shea Butter on our Italian Perilli tiles), IT'S CLEAN!!!! it's just old with many rough edges, ... artists have lived here!! and spiders conspire while I sleep as to wear they will spin their next web just to piss me off. So please be ready to cope with idiosyncrasies of a Century old building that has survived floods, 117 winters, paint splatterings and the less than kind ravages of time!
This listing can accommodate 4 to 6 depending how many sleep per bed, but please be aware that the other 2 "beds" are an air mattress & a sofa bed) as seen in the picture.
It really IS a pet's dream space out here...with lots of space to roam..and what's a vacation without your special companion??? Unfortunately, after a couple of drooling doggies permanently lifted the stain from our floors, scratched them up and left us a considerable amount of fur to clean, in every nook and cranny... we have updated our policy. We are asking a $50 non refundable deposit if you bring your dog or cat, which we will collect through the resolution center one you book. ALSO your pet isn't coming with you to be left in the room. They want to be by your side and and even though we get sworn testimonials on how good a particular guest's doggie is when they are away, the poor pup will end up invariably whimpering or scratching at the door or barking.
If you are right and fido is good, there won't be a problem! If though, he is lonely, sad, scared or just plain pissed off not to be enjoying his time with you, we have a pet sitter that will take him for a walk to the duck pond, and we will use the Resolution Center to charge you whatever was charged us. Probably no more than $20 total ...she is very reasonable,
Please treat this place as you would your home, with the respect it deserves! No smoking inside, I'm sorry... but there is direct access through a back door and you're welcome to smoke on the fire escape if you close the door. .Also, our loft space is full of art which we beg you NOT to touch no matter how tempting!!!!!!
I am an artist, and my partner is an art dealer. You may search us online and read about us in the New York Times "With this Cottage" and see both our cottages and my art on the 4th episode of Tiny House Hunting! The episode is called "Tiny Beach Bungalows in Florida" and its on the FYI channel!!!!!
