Kelly is a very welcoming, informative individual. We loved his home, very accurate to the description. It is secluded, and very quite. If you're looking for a peaceful, nature rich stay, his home is ideal. P.s his restaurant is also very good with delicious food.

We stayed one night at Kelly's spot and it was so great. First, we stopped at his little restaurant to exchange information/grab some food and it truly was delicious (specifically, the shredded beef burrito). His Airbnb is just up the hill from the restaurant, very easy to find with Kelly's simple directions. The house is tucked off the road, surrounded by friendly neighbors. Very clean accommodations, everything you might need for a stay in Costa Rica. I'd absolutely recommend booking this place AND grabbing a quick bite at his restaurant... all around very pleasant experience. Thanks, Kelly!

So if you want to stay in El Castillo and not La Fortuna, which we do highly recommend, (and you have a rental, preferably 4X4), do yourself a favor and book this place right now. Kelly is a really nice and friendly guy who was happy to give us activity recommendations, which were all gems. His food is as good as the scenery too; get some grub and ideas. Or don't get in your car and go on a nice hike out your backdoor to a beautiful vista and waterfall that you have to yourself. Mud is good. House is cozy, beds are comfortable, towels provided, candles lit, and a porch to decompress and reflect. I'll repeat, the porch, and the neighbor's cute friendly gaggle of dogs. Pura Vida, thanks Kelly

The town is awesome, great time, the house is a typical tico place, nothing to write home about, but will get you an authentic Costa Rica experience, it's a bumpy ride to the house

Location is beautiful. The view of Arenal from El Castillo is stunning. Four wheel drive recommended as the house is up a rocky road. The house itself meets basic needs. Quiet at night, chickens and cows in the morning.

So Kelly's place was a mixed bag for our purposes. First, the positives. As far as layout and furniture, it looks just like the pictures, which is to say...super cute. It is away from the basic touristy areas of La Fortuna which gives it a very authentic feel. The biggest plus of all is Kelly's restaurant. Its right at the base of the hill you drive up to get to the place, super affordable, and just down right delicious. I wish I could end the review there but I can not. I rent my place on Airbnb as well, and so I make it a point to never leave anything negative in a review unless it truly needs to be said. The bugs were a next level issue here. I know what you are saying..... "It is rural Costa Rica, dude. What do you expect?" But take my word for it here, it is a big problem. Three factors make it such an issue. 1. Almost all of the windows do not close. I get having the ability to leave it open to get air flow during a hot day, but there is not an option to close them. So flying bugs come and go just as it you were outside. 2. Neither the front of back door go all the way to the ground and create anything close to a seal, so crawling bugs have free reign just as the flying ones do. 3. A combination of dripping faucets creating pools of water in sinks, and a large one in the shower, and the fact that I do not think this place has been swept since 1996 provide massive incentives for bugs to make their way into the completely accessible house. There are like 5 or 6 bug related horror stories I could tell over the course of under 72 hours in the home, but I will leave only one. A colony of ants that lives in Kelly's couch took a liking to a granola bar in my backpack the night before I had to leave for the airport. So to set the (URL HIDDEN) is 5am and I am waking up to leave for my 3 hour drive to San Jose and I go to double check my belongs to make sure everything is packed from the night before. I unzip my backpack to find what must have been 150 ants going full assembly line mode. Like...dude...that just can't happen. Needless to say...I would avoid.
