I was extremely hesitant when I booked this place. Only because I only saw one review. I decided maybe it’s because This place is new and since my trip was a few months later – I figured someone else would have stayed there by that that and leave a review so that I would know what to expect. I was worried when I notice months later there was still only one review… I will try my best not to write too much however, I will share some information I think could be useful for anyone else thinking about staying at this location. Check-in was a breeze... I went in with an open mind - not expecting luxury however, I did expect to have access to the basic amenities. When you first walk in you notice a very unique odor in the room. The odor I was willing to overlook. There's a really sweet lady that came in during the day to make the bed and rearrange the mosquito net that's right over the bed. The floor in the room, bathroom, and shower does not appear to be very clean. If you choose to still stay there be sure to take a pair of shower sandal with you. The lighting in the room and bathroom didn't work during the day-I believe that’s something that’s common in a lot of areas in Haiti. The water in the bathroom did not work during the day or night. There's a generator at night to provide electricity. They do provide two mosquito spray in the room however, those mosquitos are something else! They will bite you through your clothes. The mosquitos have no mercy. If you fear Lizards/Frogs like me be aware you may have one or two in the room with you. The lizards are really scared of you in Haiti. They will eat the bugs and run away when you move. You really are literally right on the water (I loved that). Bring some ear plug because you are so close to the water and you are extremely close to the locals - so you will hear dogs barking, cars driving by, the locals talking, music, and etc. I'm sure the electricity played a part however, I could never use the wifi-It wasn't available. I purchased a $20 card at the airport so that I would have unlimited internet and phone service - I'm soooo glad I did that! If I didn't do that I would not have access to arrange for pickup to leave Ricardo AirBnB housing earlier than I originally planned. It's about a four hour drive from the PAP airport to Jacmel. Just remember that not all cars have AC... I was really disappointed when I arrived to the property after traveling for almost 24 hours(I used Spirit to fly for the first time + ~4hr. drive from the PAP airport) to arrive in Haiti and find out that there's no water in the bathroom. I couldn't shower, use the...

Sur le Toit was a great place to stay and Ricardo was an even better host! While Ricardo was not actually at the Airbnb in Haiti he was still one of the best hosts I have stayed with. He was very easy to communicate from the get go and always made sure that we had everything we needed. He was very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and was able to set up some tours for us. The staff at Sur le Toit were also great. We mainly spoke in French with them as they seemed to communicate better in French than they did in English. We didn't learn any Creole before coming, but if we had I think we would have been better able to communicate. The Airbnb itself is located right between two amazing beaches. You can easily go swimming right in front of the house, although the locals did warn us about a strong undertow and told us not to go out too far. The road does run right next to the house so it can be a little noisier at night, but you do get used to it. The place was very clean and the staff was very good about keeping it clean. While there was no AC there was a fan which kept you pretty cool at night. However the electricity would often go off and when the generator was running it wouldn't seem to power any of the outlets, it would only power the lights. There was also no Wifi for the entirety of our stay, which meant we had to communicate through cellular and pay extra for roaming data. Also, be prepared for mosquitoes! There is a bug net around the bed but since the windows don't have screens a lot of bugs will come in during the night. We were not as prepared as we should have been and got eaten alive the first night. We talked with Ricardo about this and after the first night the staff were really good about burning incense that kept the mosquitoes at bay! The food at the rooftop restaurant was divine! They also have two private tables on a balcony right outside the room, so you don't even have to go upstairs if you don't want to, you can eat in private and still get a great view of the ocean. They had lots of fresh seafood that was cooked amazingly, and their BBQ chicken was to die for. The staff was also really good about bringing us new things to experience without us asking. We were able to try sugar cane, kenep fruit, fresh papaya and more. They didn't always have all the items on the menu, but that was fine since they were always buying the food fresh. All in all it was a great place to stay for the price you pay, especially if you want to be able to lounge around on the beach all day.
