Yeah, it was a challenging and terrible experience for both parties. It simply wasn't a match. Having never subletted my apartment or used airbnb I don't really have another experience to compare it to, so I'm trying to process it as best as I can. I had acquired a new full size bed from one of the other roommates a few days before I left, which I thought would be an upgrade from my twin bed. In the end, Ami felt like the bed was too soft, which is incredibly subjective depending on the person. I spent a great deal of time and money to get her a new mattress that she would be comfortable with. The last thing I ever wanted was for someone to be uncomfortable in my place.
In addition, she filed an incident report that involved one of my other roommates but quickly dropped the claim saying it was a big misunderstanding, but ultimately left me stressed, panicked and wondering what exactly was going on in my apartment. Yet, we both still tried to make things work. Again, having never done this before, despite the initial problems, I wanted to make the rest of her time there a good one, especially since she had expressed many times that she would be game to stay for even longer.
In regards to the other matters, I did mention specifically in our initial messages before she arrived that : "storage space is fairly limited. My closet is filled to the brim. There are two empty drawers in the middle of my main dresser, and there's also space under the bed."
There were also building maintenance issues that were fine when I left, but apparently became a problem, which ultimately was beyond my control. Being thousands of miles away, and in a different time zone, I did everything I possible could from where I was and where I continue to be. In fact, I'm still not back home, so this is still hard for me process. I'm devastated and disappointed that this experience was so awful for both of us. And I can't shake how morally degrading it feels to have someone place this much judgment on a person's standards of living, particularly when it was only for a few weeks.
So, in all honesty, I'm not sure if I'll even do this again, but if I do, I'm hoping once time has passed I'll have learned something from this bad experience, and to make things better for my guests.
