We stayed here this February and it was a great experience.
LOCATION: It is located within walking distance from Malecón, El Prado, Old Havana (Habana Vieja), Capitolio, Gran Teatro de La Habana, Museo de la Revolución; so it is perfect if you don't want to spend so much money in taxis.
SAFETY: Havana is one of the safest places I have been to so the house is also safe. It has extra locks that can be closed from the inside and there is always somebody in the building. The main door for the building has a lock and the apartment has two extra locks to get in; you will get a full set of keys upon arrival.
HOSTS: We didn't see Roberto, but he is very responsive to calls and e-mails. He was very helpful answering all our questions. Nidia is Roberto's mother and she received us with the tour of the apartment and keys. While in Havana we called her a couple of times and she was eager to help. Very nice lady, we wanted to stay talking with her for hours.
APARTMENT: It is well kept and clean. The AC was superb. You get clean towels, toilet paper, hair dryer and an iron. The refrigerator has juice, water and beer, you need to pay extra as in any hotel, but they are lifesavers in a warm afternoon. The TV works perfectly with Spanish and English channels. It is an old building so we were mesmerized with the architecture, ultra tall ceilings.
OTHERS: Roberto arranged our airport pick up with Julio and we are very thankful he did. We were planing on buying an expensive city tour in a classic car, but we arranged it with Julio who offers classic cars as well and took us on a great tour of the city, we covered much more than the offered tours and he is a never ending source of information. He will also be flexible if there is something you just have to see. He also arranged our ride back to the airport.
The lady that lives in the apartment across from Roberto's prepares breakfast for the guests for 5 CUC, highly recommended. We had coffee, juice, eggs, bread, milk but you can also customize it if you prefer something else. She can also answer any questions you might have.
Remember, Havana is noisy no matter where you go so take earplugs if you are a light sleeper.
It was a great stay and we would recommend it to anybody, it felt like home.
