We stayed 1 night and it was amazing after a very long drive. Arrived late but was able to text Joss from a nearby town and he was kind enough to have the pizza oven still hot so we could still have a meal! Kids loved the "round" house, and the loft beds. Only issue we had was that the playground is a little scary with young kids....and the trampoline is open at the corners allowing little ones to fall into the pit below. Definitely recommend having parental supervision when playing. Otherwise it was an amazing place to stay, with wonderful people, and service, and we wish we could have stayed longer.

This was a great find. If you're visiting the Drakensberg, it's a bit outside the mountains and the town of Bergville. It's a compound with several freestanding chalets. The restaurant is quite good. It was too chilly to use the pool. It's like camping in perfect comfort

All the staff were fantastic. Bungalows were comfortable and the restaurant was great. It is a great location for touring the battlefields and mountains.

This is a great place to stop at on your way. The location is tranquil and relaxing. The units are quirky and have all that you need and the bed very comfortable. If you have a problem with stairs check. We enjoyed the company of the dogs that joined us for a walk. The bar and restaurant serves good honest food and is worth a stop even if you are not staying.

Joss and Paula Joubert are innovative, hands-on and entirely dedicated.
They also have a holiday apartment in Umhlanga, The Shades 61.

Bingelela started in 1998 on Needwood farm, just outside Bergville when Paula decided to start a small 12 seater restaurant in their farm house.

Joss being a farmer, supported his wife in her endeavor and assisted in the early days being a barmen and musician with their band the Dirty Dogs, playing live music.

Bingelela slowly grew from strength to strength and is now a 250 seater Restaurant, Pub, Pizzeria and B&B.

With Bingelela growing into a successful venture, Joss and Paula decided to invest in Umhlanga purchasing their flat the Shades 61.

Through their hard work, business savvy and warm hospitality that has ensured Bingelela’ s great reputation since it first opened its doors in 1998 as well as the Shades 61 in Umhlanga.

It’s been an organic process of growth for Joss and Paula who have succeeded in building and maintaining a wonderful place for visitors to come relax and unwind and experience that “home-away-from-home” feeling while delighting in all the charms of the coastal as well as Drakensberg regions.

Joss is an avid fisherman and will cease any opportunity to pack his boat and go fishing with friends, family or anyone else that is keen. Among his favorite fishing spots are Sodwana, Cape Vidal and Mozambique.

His other hobby is flying and has recently taking the necessary steps, starting his venture into getting a pilot’s license.

Paula still sees to catering, running the restaurant and developing the menu and it’s her incredible passion and flair for food that’s resulted in the continued success of the restaurant which draws guests from far and wide who come back time and again for her inventive and mouth-wateringly delicious dishes. Her creative personality is further seen all over – from the hand-made lamps, mosaic tables and mirrored pillars at the entrance to the garnishing of the dishes.

Both Joss and Paula love to travel, having been to Spain, Italy and Vietnam. Their favourite travel destination though is Thailand. They love the tranquil environment and that they always feel welcomed.
