My best friend ran in the Vermont100 miler endurance race this weekend. I wanted a place that was centralized to the race and close to the start/finish line. I kid you not when I say this is the most perfect, ideal spot for what I wanted and what my friend needed. While his fiancée followed him through the race, the cabin gave my soon to be wife and myself the luxury to come and go as we pleased to catch him at various locations or just lounge and enjoy the scenery. The fireplace and grill were a big hit and used both nights! I was nervous when we first arrived because we were hungry and had no cell service or wifi, therefore no directions or gps. However, a few questions to the neighbors and we found the price chopper. The lack of technology brought me back to the days when we relied on our intuition and the use of paper maps which added to the adventure, not to mention it was a beautiful weekend to drive around getting yourself lost and then connect the dots. The lack of technology also required actual conversations and less social media!! We entertained ourselves through the oldies on the record player and enjoying the outdoors. I'm also happy to say my good friend Landon finished the 100 miles in 23hrs 30 mins and his fiancée Cara was able to run the last 30 miles with him to the finish line. Highly recommend this cabin and we will return. Thank you John for the accommodations!

I stayed at John’s cozy historic cottage over Christmas for 5 days with my partner and 3 other friends. We had a wonderful stay - the cottage is warm, homely, comfortable, well-equipped, nicely decorated and was just perfect for a winter getaway to the snow. The compact kitchen and the dining area were great for cooking up and enjoying our Christmas dinner, and the lounge area ideal for relaxing after a day on the slopes at Okemo. We particularly loved sitting around the chiminea wood burner on the porch under the stars with snowflakes falling, and sledding in the field over the road. John was an exceptional host - extremely accommodating when we had to adjust our arrival day and time, and allowing us to bring an additional friend who stayed on an air mattress (also provided) in the lounge area. His neighbor very kindly shovelled the snow from the drive and door for us too after an overnight snowfall. I highly recommend both John and his cottage, and would love to come back to stay in the summertime.

We enjoyed a wonderful summer weekend at the schoolhouse. I want to book for next year right now! The listing photos are great though I wills ay the space feels much bigger than the photos convey. The space is open and light facing the mountain. I loved sitting out on the deck looking out at the mountain with my coffee and books. THere's also good bird watching (the binoculars were a wonderful surprise) and lovely plantings in the front of the home. As an artist I was delighted to see the lovely collection adorning the walls—from plein air paintings to still lives and prints. The towels, beds and linens were comfortable and there were ample fans for cooling during our hot and humid weekend. There's a terrific range of books for cooks and poets and historians, too. The driveway is not as steep as I expected and easy to pull in and back out of (there's not a ton of traffic on the road). head to the Brownsville General Store for groceries and amazing chocolate milk. I appreciated the welcome notebook, too. Thanks for sharing your place; It's a gem.

Staying in this quaint old one room school house and learning it's history through the pictures and book provided added to it's charm. In a rural location but less than 30 minutes away from shopping and local attractions. Updated with all modern conveniences, all amenities were provided which added to an all around pleasurable stay. It was so peaceful. There was plenty of room for 4 grown adults. We had two children as well and they loved it there. There is a DVD player there so if you plan on turning on the TV, I would recommend bringing DVD's. It was a bit cold but we were able to enjoy the patio. We met the neighbor that was super friendly and she just made sure we had everything we needed. Thank you for a wonderful place to stay while visiting Vermont!
