I heard about Airbnb from my daughters so I decided to check out some places for our trip to Mackinac Island. After looking at all the beautiful photos of Jim's property and reading all the wonderful positive feedback from other guest, I knew this was the place for Rob and I.
Before I booked our dates I had some questions and Jim responded promptly. After I booked we decided it would work best for us if we came in a day earlier than planned and once again Jim was quick to respond and accepted the change. He messaged me easy directions a couple days before we would arrive. Upon arrival he saw us pull into the property and immediately walked on over with his little budy Biscuit (an adorable friendly Sheltie) to greet us. Jim is very friendly and we instantly felt welcomed as we visited with him and petted little Bisquit. He talked a bit about the property and left us alone to settle into our cozy, clean, charming cabin.
The property is not only beautiful, peaceful and relaxing being right on Lake Michigan but the stars are unlike anything we've ever experienced with a bonus of seeing the Milky Way right above us and the beautiful lights on Mackinac Bridge. We enjoyed walking out on the dock in the morning and again when it was pitch black to sit and look at all the stars. We enjoyed walking through the woods and surprisingly finding a bunch of Chrismas trees growing.
We enjoyed our peaceful comfortable cabin (the showers water pressure is wonderful, better than what we have at home) and the beds are very comfy too. We enjoyed visiting with Jim while he was out and about, and loved petting Bisquit.
It's obvious Jim and his wife Margaret care about their guest, they keep a couple of lights on at night until they know their guests are safe in their cabins. Our last night we were naughty and stayed out very late, and when we got back, we noticed the lights were still on and within minutes of us getting in the cabin they went off. We felt bad knowing they were waiting up for us, like parents waiting for their teenage kids to get home. We apologized the next day and Jim jokingly said he would have to ground us. He has a great sense of humor.
We will definetly be staying here again when we're ready to come back out that way to visit some of Michigan's other beautiful cities since St. Ignace is centrally located from other places on our list. There's no need for us to look anywhere else for lodging, we will work around Jim's schedule so we can stay in "our" cabin again. :-)
Thank you Jim and Margaret for sharing your bit of paradise with us and for making our first Airbnb a wonderful and memorable experience.
