I met up with an old friend for the weekend to explore Harrisburg, a halfway point between her home in New York and my home in Virginia. We found it to be a great city with lots to do. We really enjoyed the variety of restaurants and the beautiful river walk. We also visited the Tanger Outlet Mall and Chocolate World in Hershey, about a half hour away. Julia’s place is clean, comfortable, and only a couple of miles from a variety of restaurants and attractions. It is located on a tight narrow street of what I would call row houses or side by side duplexes, some in better repair than others. It was busy in terms of people coming and going. We did not feel comfortable walking the neighborhood, but drove to another area when we wanted to go walking. Julia’s place, which is an end unit of three joined homes, has an upstairs and downstairs. Downstairs are the living room, sitting room, well-equipped kitchen, back porch area, and a small fenced in yard. On the upper level are two spacious bedrooms (one with a twin bed and one with a larger bed) with a sitting room and a bathroom in between. All rooms were attractively decorated, well furnished, and home like. Linens and towels were provided. The home was extremely clean. I am an extremely light sleeper and did not do well with the very firm bed and typical amount of neighborhood noise. My friend generally sleeps well and had no problem whatsoever sleeping soundly both nights. I appreciated that the lower level had a window unit for AC, as did each bedroom. These kept the home cool and were surprisingly quiet. The kitchen had a coffee maker and filters (although only instant coffee, so we purchased ground coffee) and various food items such as tea and snack foods. The kitchen also had dishes, silverware, cookware, and some basics like aluminum foil and plastic wrap. The bathroom contained body wash, conditioner, and lotion. Shampoo and a hair dryer weren’t provided but I had brought my own. Agharese provided detailed directions in advance regarding check in and parking. She was a prompt communicator. She met us for check in, was warm and friendly, and gave us a thorough tour of the home. She gave us each a cold bottle of water, which was a nice surprise after our long drive. She made us feel very welcome and I appreciated her hospitality. Checking out was easy and convenient, we left the key as instructed and locked the door behind us with a twist lock on the knob.

Agharese's place is exactly as described - clean, has wifi, she even leaves you some basic snacks in the frig! It was great to be able to grab an O.J. in the morning. The neighborhood is low income residential, but felt safe and quiet. Our navigator took us though a rougher neighborhood to get there, so if that happens to you - don't panic. Also, you will park on the street, down from the house. (Your car won't be in a driveway or directly in front of the house.) This was fine for me and the car was safe. Agharese is very communicative and outgoing! She provides very specific instructions about check in, check out, and the house so you always know what to expect.

I came to Harrisburg for just a few days to take an exam. I wanted a place where I could study and make my own food, and this was a much better option than a hotel (and cheaper than the decent chains in the area). Agharese drove me to and from the train and my test site for an extra $50 so I didn't have to worry about finding a cab in a residential area early in the morning on my test days, which really great.

All the basics covered; does have AC (which we did not need); fridge stocked if you need it; lively but safe neighborhood; good WiFi; easy to get in and out of town.

I live and work in Harrisburg, PA. I travel quite a bit and have stayed in Airbnbs in several places including Canada, Spain, India, Great Britain and Israel. Based on my experiences in these places, I decided to be an Airbnb hostess here in Harrisburg, incorporating into my offering what I liked most about the places I have stayed.

I am offering a two bedroom furnished house, complete with a kitchen, in a diverse, family-oriented, working class, quiet neighborhood (although occasionally, passing vehicles on the street may have their music volume turned on a little bit too high in the summer!), at an affordable rate here in Harrisburg.

One of my main requirements when I travel on a budget, is CLEANLINESS. Julia's place is welcoming clean space. It is your home away from home.

When a guest books Julia's Place, I immediately begin to run through my mind, the questions I have, when I am going to be an airbnb guest in my travels:
1) Will the host be friendly?
2) Will the general atmosphere of the space be welcoming and
comfortable?
3) Will the space be clean?
4) Will the bed be comfortable?
5) Will the beddings be clean and freshly laundered?
6) Will the bathroom be clean?
7) Will I be able to take a shower right away if I need to?
8) Will I have access to internet with my electronic device?
9) Will there be snacks to munch on till I find out where I can eat?
10) Would I need to walk a long distance in order to access a public
transportation system (if one exists)?
11) Might I have to deal with some huge or small unfriendly pet?
12) What if for reasons beyond my control, I arrive a bit later than the check-
in time or have to leave a bit later than the checkout time, will the host
impose an additional fee?

The answer to questions 1-9 is a resounding YES! The answer to questions 10-12 is also a resounding NO!

With this mind-set, I believe I shall be a good host, making sure that you (my guest(s)) are as comfortable as possible in a NICE, CLEAN space. My motto? - 'Clean Spaces Have Possibilities". As my guest, Julia's Place shall be your 'Home away from Home' during your stay.

I do love to travel and so far have been in most of the continents on the planet except South America and Australia! I hope to make it there someday. Besides adventure travelling, I love gardening and taking long walks in parks. I walk or ride my bike along the beautiful Susquehanna River almost every day and on weekends in the summer. In the cold months, I walk in the malls! Incidentally, Julia's Place is only about 15 minutes from the two major malls in Harrisburg. The Colonial Park Mall and the Harrisburg Mall.

Regarding gardening, it's October and the growing season has come to an end. I enjoyed a bountiful harvest of cucumbers and Okra from Julia's garden and enjoyed sharing the produce with my guests and friends. As we move in steadily and surely into the cold season. I am looking forward to spring (already!) when I shall start planting again. My guests in the summer months will be able to enjoy the produce from my Julia's garden such as fresh tomatoes, cucumbers etc.

I love to read; not just any thing, my preference is a compelling story that I would find hard to put down till I finish it, like Adichie's "The Purple Hibiscus". I have several hardback and paperback novels in the lounge room upstairs and downstairs for my guests who need something to read during their stay. Also if you are reading a good book and you finish it while at Julia's and want to donate it to the collection for others to enjoy, that would be great!

I love movies with surprising twists at the end, like M. Night Shymalan's "The Sixth Sense"; action movies with sympathetic heroes like Jason Bourne in the Bourne Trilogy; and folksy magical movies like "The Secret of Roan Inish". I like compelling foreign movies like "Children of Heaven", "The Namesake", "the Life of Pie" and "The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo". I have a DVD player and TV in the space. I also have a collection of movies available for guests who wish to watch movies.

I also love to write - Not that I will ever show my writings to anyone!
If you are an aspiring writer or just making entries into your journal, I invite you to relax in the bedrooms or sit in the lounge area upstairs or downstairs and write.

Finally, I have an eclectic taste in music. I can just as easily loose myself in a Mozart's Romantic Interlude as I can to Aretha Franklin's 'Spirit in the Dark', to Bonnie Raitt's 'Feels Like Home', to Ali Farka Toure's 'The River' to Tu Pac's ode to his mother - 'Dear Mama'. There is an old-fashioned CD/Cassete player in the lounge room upstairs as well as a collection of CDs for your enjoyment. If you like, you can bring your own CDs for your listening pleasure during your stay at Julia's Place.

This low-budget, but comfortable 'feels like home' offering, is a two minute walk to a City's bus stop that takes you to downtown Harrisburg, the Capitol complex and other places downtown like the Pinnacle Health Hospital. It is a 4 minute drive to the National Civil War Museum, 9 minute drive to City Island - home of the City's baseball team - Harrisburg Senators; and also where you can take a leisurely boat ride or enjoy a dinner cruise aboard the steam boat - 'Pride of the Susquehanna' on the Susquehanna River; or enjoy a walk along the River at the River Front Park and cross over to the Island by the Pedestrian Bridge.

The Location is 24 minutes to Hershey Park, Chocolate World and Hershey Gardens and the outlet shops in Hershey.

For guests who want to venture out a little farther, It is less than an hour from the Amish village and Amish communities of Lancaster, the children amusement park - Deutsch Wonderland, and the Rockvale Shopping outlets in Lancaster. Also, it is less than 50 minutes from the Gettysburg National Military Park and battle fields.

Guests are welcomed for short and long stays.
