This was a wonderful experience for my wife and me. Romeo´s house is built and furnished with much taste and elegance, and it is located just a bit outside Urbino in the countryside, easy to reach on a good road, and with a BEAUTIFUL view of Urbino and the surrounding hills. If you use a GPS, as we did, make sure not to drive too far out of Urbino: The house is on the left (valley) side of the street and clearly numbered (our GPS took us c. one kilometer further away, the problem being that all even house numbers are together at a distance from the cluster of odd house numbers). Romeo welcomed us with great hospitality (fresh fruit, a cake baked by his mother, etc.!) and helped us carry our suitcases up to the guest appartment in the attic. Everything was in perfect shape, clean, nicely cool, quiet, and welcoming. The attic is part of Romeo´s part of the house which extends over two storeys that are connected by an internal staircase. Hence, the attic is not an entirely separted apartment, but we did not perceive the situation in any way as a problem, partly because the staircase is not at the center of the attic but in an angle, and we did not hear the slightest noise from Romeo downstairs. Instead, we enjoyed warm May evenings on the roof terrace of the attic with the stars above us and the fragrance of two large lemon trees in terracotta buckets behind us. In the morning, Romeo welcomed us downstairs in his large kitchen where he prepared breakfast for us and showed us how to do it ourselves the next day. Then he discretely withdrew to his workplace still one floor further down where Romeo works as a restaurator of paintings and other works of art from various centuries (the basement, but since the house is built on a hillslope, one can park on two levels: basement and ground floor). Our stay with Romeo was particularly lovely because my wife and I have a professional interest in literature and art from Greco-Roman antiquity and the Renaissance; thus we had several delightful conversations. Regrettably, we could stay for only two nights, but we would love to return.
