El lugar

The space includes one bedroom and one small lounge that can also be used as a bedroom, kitchenette with fridge and a kettle and a basic bathroom. The verandah is towards the forest and the hills where you can spot wildlife in the evenings. This is simple and rural and in the nature and we can not keep the space completely free of bugs so please be prepared for that.

Disponible para huéspedes

Our own home kitchen is available for the guests to cook their own food if requested in advance.

Atención a los huéspedes

During the week the staff of the Animal Refuge is present to assist and on the weekends me and my family will be around. On Saturdays and Sundays it is possible to book for horse riding lessons but this needs to be confirmed in advance with me (Ilona Otter).

The Hill View Farm is about 800m off from the Ooty-Masinagudi-Theppakadu road and that 800m is very rough and requires a jeep or 4x4 vehicle. You can park your car next to 'Pushpa auto care' in Mavanalla village and ask for a local jeep taxi (ask for Babu) to drop you to the farm. This will usually cost Rs. 150-200 or during the light hours we can send a person to walk with the guests to the farm.
The Animal Refuge houses about 40 dogs, 60 donkeys, 10 ponies and horses and 20 cattle. The Animal Refuge houses about 40 dogs, 60 donkeys, 10 ponies and horses and 20 cattle.
There is no food provided, please arrange for your own meals. Drinking water from our borewell is available from the kitchen of the main house. You are most welcome to join in the farm works and help the shelter staff in feeding, cleaning and grooming. Please ask them to show what you could do. Please note that the place is a charity-run animal refuge funded by donations and with limited staff mainly for the care of the animals, not so much as hospitality staff to serve the guests.

HillView Farm is a very nice remote spot in Mavanalla Masinagudi. It has a fantastic view of Mudumalai Hills and the fringes of the Mudmalai Tiger reserve. The accommodation is a typical farm setup and has all the basic amenities to have a peaceful stay away from the daily churn of life in the city. Overall a great place for animal lovers and children.

If you're someone who loves waking up to animals, and wants a nice quiet getaway place from all the city noise, you definitely have to stay here. We had a great time here. The staff is helpful, and Ilona makes sure she is available to help us over the phone (if she is not on the property during those days). All-in-all, we had a lovely experience here, and i will definitely go back!

The farm has a lot to offer if you're looking to just interact with the animals. Was perfect for our kids. The dogs are very friendly. The cabin is simple but comfortable. Rained quite heavy the night we were here, there was no power but it was still quite cool and no mosquitoes. Had trouble getting out the next morning as only a 4x4 would pass through the route after the rains. Nigel was very helpful and let us use his kitchen to have some breakfast. He also helped us tow our vehicle with his jeep. The staff is helpful too. The best part was being close to the animals. Very good initiative for the animals.

Respuesta de Ilona:
I am sorry that there were water problems for you. As you were aware your group was bigger than what was mentioned in the booking. The caretakers are there to mainly look after the animals in the shelter not for the guests since the place is not a hotel or a guesthouse but our own home where we have an animal shelter as well. Obviously they should remember to fill the water tank but sometimes it gets forgotten. Immediately on your arrival you were also specifically told not to go to he fields where the elephant was. The fact that you need to reach by 5:30 and the wild animal risk and the road condition are all clearly explained in the description of the place here at the Airbnb website.

Ilona was warm and helpful. The stay in the farm is very adventurous and scenic. You get a good view of Nilgiris from the room. Also, we were lucky to spot an elephant, Rivaldo in nearby areas. Ilona was kind enough to share the stories with us. Also, got a chance to learn horseriding and do the little riding by ourself.
