El lugar

Treat yourself to this hilltop custom-built Canadian Pine Log home that offers spectacular southwestern views of Nicholas Passage and just steps from the back door, your very own piece of the Tongass National Forest!

Your water view can vary from day to day depending on the weather. You may experience misty skies with gentle foghorns of gorgeous cruise ships or big blue Alaskan ferries making their way through the clouds, an array of stunning sunsets, or stark blue skies that beckon your amazement and wonder for miles across the unending horizon! And with the Tongass National Forest at our back door there is an opportunity for the occasional sighting of Sitka Black-Tailed deer, bald eagles, ravens, and even sometimes black bears.

This rustic Alaskan log home is perfect for the independent traveler who wishes to stay just outside of the city limits. Located just 1.5 miles from downtown and a half mile from a beautiful waterfront walking/bike path which guides vacationers back into the downtown area or in the opposite direction to both Saxman Native Village and the popular Rotary Beach. One may either walk on sunny days or catch the local city bus out to the beach, right into downtown or all the way out to Ward Lake or even further to Totem Bight State Park! Guests may also wish to rent or bring your own vehicle with plenty of free parking on the property.

My House's Community Room is equipped with a shared mini-fridge, coffee maker, electric tea pot, and toaster with a continental breakfast with locally roasted coffee. Along with a comfortable seating area and table with chairs with the spectacular unending ocean view!

You're welcome to come relax and refresh after your days of touring or business within Ketchikan. Enjoy your pleasant stay within the solitude in this simple tranquil setting surrounded by huge cedars, hemlocks, spruce and alder trees up on the hilltop at My House!

Stayed in the "fish" room for two nights. Gorgeous view from the big shared room, spacious and spotless accommodations, and even though I shared the bathroom with two other guests it was no problem at all. Great snacks in the fridge--fruit, cheese sticks, coffee, oatmeal, power bars, etc. Travelers should know that the location is about two miles south of Ketchikan. Walking to town is possible, an hourly bus stops at the bottom of the hill (about a 1/2 mile walk), and a taxi is $26 from the airport ferry and about $11 from town. I found one of the few Uber drivers in town which saves about 1/2 on those fares. I made use of all modes of transportation, and it is unknown at this time whether Uber and Lyft can continue services in Ketchikan. Jodie offered a ride as well if she were going into town.

Jodie is a great host and her home is gorgeous. It is about a 20 minute walk into town and is tucked nicely into the forest so that you feel both central but secluded. The room (fish room) was very comfortable and spacious, but the best part is the public space with tables and chairs overlooking the water - best place to read a book with some coffee! Already missing my stay in Ketchikan.

Jodie was a great host. She saw me walking at the bottom of the large hill up to her house & stopped to get me. Breakfast was nice and plentiful. The room was clean and quiet. Beautiful views and just a short walk along the coast to downtown Ketchikan. She was very much open to conversation and story swapping. 5/5 stars for The Fish Room

I'm a 62 yr old retired female who commercial fished with my husband for 26 yrs. I have a very large home and I thought it would be fun to try a bnb.
