This is a lovely, old home perched on the side of a mountain. There are three flights of stairs in an old barn to get to the main house. The barn and the stairs are impossible to keep entirely free of dust and debris, as part of the space is really a covered outdoor space. We hope that our guests will have expectations of a well-kept, "older" home, but please keep in mind that the home has character.
This house is truly our family home. Please treat it as you would treat your own space. This is where we come every summer, with our young children. It is where our extended family comes.
My husband and I have been married for sixteen years. We have seven children and a loyal golden doodle. We live in suburban DC (Maryland) most of the year, but we are originally from New England and New York. We are huge mountain enthusiasts and nature lovers.
We've vacationed in the White Mountains since we were engaged, coming year after year with our growing family, hiking the same well-loved trails. Now our older kids carry the younger ones up the same paths they were carried on as babies. After so many years, we wanted a place to call home, a place that would be our spot. In the summer of 2012 we rented this charming chalet with stunning valley and mountain views in the perfect location for a family vacation. We got to know the owner, a wonderful man who built the chalet for his family in the late 70s. We remembered the place fondly after our visit. When we saw the home pop up in the MLS in late spring of 2015, we could hardly believe our eyes. It had been our favorite spot ever! We made an offer almost immediately, and spent the summer updating the interior and exterior for ourselves and for our guests. We've promised the original owner we'll try to honor the spirit of his chalet--it was the first property built on the ridge. A little piece of Glen/Bartlett history. We hope you'll love it as much as we do.
