We enjoyed our stay at Van Song Villa! The staff are very friendly and nice! We only had a few problems. First, we had trouble getting to the hostel. I couldn’t get a hold of Hat through messaging, but was able to call. Since we weren’t getting picked up from the airport, we arranged for a tuk-tuk to take us there and were reimbursed. However, the address and map listed were not useful and our driver couldn’t find it. Our driver tried calling several times but the receptionist kept hanging up. Finally another driver was able to get us there.
Secondly, our room was clean, and had the amenities listed but we had trouble getting hot water in our room. We told the staff, and they basically said we needed to keep the water turned on for at least 15 minutes before showering (what a waste of water!) and it would get hot. They said this was due to our room being on the first floor. Well, after 20 minutes it wasn’t any hotter, so we resigned ourselves to cold showers.
Thirdly, housekeeping only came by once during our seven day trip. We had to empty our trash at the front desk, and ask for new towels etc.
Lastly, there were several power outages (four I think) during our stay. Three of them were apparently only happening in our room: Inconvenient, but not a huge deal.
Aside from these things, the swimming pool was awesome, and definitely made our stay worthwhile after the hot days of temple touring. The free breakfast was great too! The location is excellent. Just a five or ten minute walk to Pub Street and the Old Market. There is a very good Indian restaurant close by as well as many restaurants! If we come back to Cambodia, we will stay here again (but maybe not on the first floor!) I would recommend Van Song Villa to anyone coming to Cambodia!
