The Forge is pretty much exactly as the pictures show you. A fantastic 2 bedroom cottage, complete with private swimming pool, 2 bathrooms and off street parking. Palairac is like something straight out of a postcard and is a tiny historic mining village nestled into a gorge, with roughly 20 houses in various states of refurbishment. Really is extremely pretty and extremely lazy. If you are looking for a party, this is the wrong place for you. If you need to relax by your own private pool, reading a book or 2 and watching the hours slip by, then this is your perfect place
Anne made us feel extremely welcome and provided everything we could ask for. She has not cut any corners and even the bedding and towels are high quality.
We are already planning to stay next year!
Some local advice - There are no shops in Palairac but the closest town (Tuchan) has everything you need. We barely ventured beyond it. Took us a while to work out, however there is an ATM, Spar, petrol station (on road to Durban), 2 butchers, winery and a bakery (although most are closed during the hottest part of the day). If you like castles, then you are in for a welcome surprise. Palairac is in the centre of the Cathar area and dotted with castles. The best we saw was Peyrpertuse, which is something straight out of Lord of the Rings.
