We stayed at Vito's (I think Elisabetta is his sister... ) for a long weekend away from the city of Napoli. Very nice experience in the country... spent time relaxing at his pool, visiting Ostuni, and time at a stunning beach near Rosa Marina (Onda Blu). I stayed in the Masseria with my wife and 2 (12, 14 year) childeren. Temperatures were very nice (Late May) and the low humidity was a welcome change from Napoli.
Challenges: Vito speaks little english (my wife speaks basic+ Italian, and I am pretty basic); but his sisters daughter speaks a little more English. Overall, they are very patient with any language issues. Mosquitos were a little thick at night - close the doors (the chains are good to keep out flies but not effective against the Mosquitos; windows had ok screens). Second bedroom is not connected to the main part of the house... may be a problem in the summer with less ventilation. Price is a little expensive but not unexpected for a Masseria. Although rustic/rpugh, the apartment was cute and well setup.
Good: Everything we asked for (extra pan, etc) was taken care of. Very nice, personable hosts. We had the first meal in the new Restaurant owned by the Owners Sister... and it was wonderful. Would have happily tried another meal there if offered. Ostuni is only 10 minutes away - off season it was easy to find parking at the base of the old city and wander up. Wifi was reliable and Air con in the bedroom, while not necessary during our trip, made it easy to shut up and avoid the Mosquitos (but no AC in other bedroom). Grounds of Masseria have: walking paths, an astonishing (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) year old olive trees, a pool with lounge chairs and hammocks, and a pathway encased in grape vines. A wonderful place to relax and spend more time.
I was a little surprised at the apartment when I first arrived but we quickly fell in love and enjoyed our time. Highly recommended.
