We met Phil who is very friendly and welcoming. Our stay didn't happen. We came to the house and were extremely disappointed, we felt very mislead. To get to the property you have to drive through a large trailer park. When we arrived to the property there were 3 guys sitting outside a trailer across the street just staring at us the whole time we were outside the house, and when we came out to the car, after the walkthrough, they stared again. So right off the bat we were very uncomfortable. The room we rented is called the Tamarack room. After seeing the property we aren't sure why it deserves a name. It is a very small, nondescript, room in the upstairs of a house. We didn't meet the person living downstairs when we walked through the house which isn't so bad but feels very awkward when its just you in the house, you feel like you're sharing someone else's space and it doesn’t help you are given a key to lock yourself in your room at night. Also the Tamarack room does not have a private bathroom. Although we knew this when booking, we realized the common bathroom for the whole upstairs is the one we would be using and for the money it didn't seem worth it. It is advertised as 110 $ a night. When you select a weekend day it jumps to 130 and with taxes its about 156 $. We felt so uncomfortable after coming back to the house late at night and finding no exterior lights on and the outside of the house pitch black that we left and stayed at a motel an hour away because it was the only thing available. It was 82 dollars and had a much better vibe. The house also smelled like a former smoking room at a motel, which is ironic as our cheap motel room did not. The next day we texted the owner that we did not end up staying there. He was not at all curious why and only seemed annoyed that we were not there when he showed up to cook breakfast. We did notice that the pictures included a breakfast and it was called a bed and breakfast, yet there was no mention of breakfast or a time someone would be showing up to cook it for us. We do feel that the people who run this place have good intentions. Unfortunately, they have seriously missed the mark on description, price, and what most people are expecting when booking a water view peaceful retreat. And frankly, the view of the river, 'plush' robes, and nice shower don't make up for the location being right off the highway, past the weed shop, through the trailer park to stay in a small uninviting room that arguably has no view (as advertised).

Respuesta de Riverwood B&B:
We thank Jordan for this honest review. We truly regret these guests had an uncomfortable experience, but nothing was communicated to us until well into the next day, preventing us from being able to address any of the complaints in a timely manner. In our defense, we would like to speak to a few things... One does not have to drive *through* a trailer park, but only *past* one side of it, then past a side street of regular residential homes, some with large yards and gardens, and then to the circle of very nice houses on the water. We are not IN a trailer park. We are 2 streets away from the trailer park. We believe we found a real *gem* that others had overlooked, and we have delighted in sharing it with other people, making friends from far and near! The house across the street from our house is being remodeled. If there were men sitting on a trailer there, it is likely they were men who were hired to do that work and were taking a rest break. We have never seen this (or them) in our time there nor heard of a similar incident from other guests. We feel very safe in this neighborhood. Other bed and breakfasts have quite similar accommodations: you rent one of the rooms in a larger house, and often those rooms don't have their own bathroom. However, in our house, the hallway bathroom is *only* for use by the people staying in the Tamarack room. Guests staying in the Ponderosa room have their own bathroom, as does the co-owner living downstairs. Neither of those people would want/need to use the hallway Tamarack bathroom, since they have their own to use. We provide locks on the doors, like *every* hotel/motel/b&b, for the guests to feel they can safely lock valuables in their room if they want to go out while there are unknown guests in the other room. We believe that having a person living IN the house (downstairs) provides more security than if the house was sitting empty. Two of the owners live on the other side of town, and one lives in the downstairs area. Most B&B owners live in or near the house, and most guests would feel uncomfortable if the doors did NOT have locks. We do charge more for weekend nights and summer season, as is the custom for most lodgings who experience higher demand during those times. A good portion of our cost goes toward providing and serving a full, plentiful sit-down breakfast of mostly organic and locally sourced food. We wish these guests had stayed to experience our breakfast, and if they had, we believe they would have changed their minds about the price, as we tend to outdo ourselves in that regard. Even with an abundance of food, most guests manage to clean their plates. If there are any leftovers, we often package them neatly and give them as a "road snack" for departing guests. When first greeting guests and giving them a tour of the property, we normally ask when they would like to have breakfast served. However, these guests seemed to be in a great hurry to leave when we greeted them, so we forgot to ask about a specific breakfast time. Our website states we serve breakfast between 8 and 9:30. We realized this information is missing on our Airbnb listings, so we will remedy that. The exterior lights are usually left on ALL the time, even in daylight. We are not sure why/when they were turned off, but we will be sure they are always left on from this point forward. All 3 of us are non-smokers and insist that any guests who are smokers use the gazebo on the other side of the yard for smoking, well away from the house. We are quite sensitive to smoke smell, and have not experienced what these guests describe. However, there was recently some controlled burning downriver, sending large clouds of smoke up our way. Perhaps some of that smell lingered? We only use unscented, natural cleaning products and laundry soap, so the house and rooms don't smell like the perfumed hotel/motel rooms that most people are used to. We will investigate this further, to see if we can locate and eliminate the source of such a smell. None of our other guests have complained of this. When we arrived to cook breakfast for these guests in the morning, loaded down with lots of healthy food, we were surprised to find everything unused, and yes, we were curious as to why, but had received no communication. We assumed these guests, who were visiting friends, had been invited to spend the night at the friends' house. If that were the case, we wondered why they had not told us they wouldn't be staying. When we finally received a text from them, we thought it quite odd that they waited until mid-afternoon on the day of their departure. In that communication, they did not seem to want to elaborate any details, and we didn't wish to appear nosy or rude, therefore, we didn't ask why. It seems we should have been more inquisitive, and now we know why the guests were not more forthcoming. We sincerely regret these guests did not feel comfortable and wish we could have been given the chance to address their concerns at the time! However, we have many, many guests who have truly enjoyed their stay, and who have received excellent, immediate customer service from us, especially when communicating concerns. Most of our previous guests have written heartfelt 5-star reviews and have been quite satisfied in the value received for the price charged, especially when comparing it to other local options.

Second time stay at Phil, Linda & Joy's Airbnb home on Lake Roosevelt was outstanding! They added a brand new walk-in shower with a heated floor to walk on! Such great hosts who helped me and my special needs son feel welcomed and cared for. Such stunning views from the wrap-around Windows from their dining room and living room. Delicious fruit offered upon arrival and a gourmet breakfast. We both slept peacefully and the new sheets on the comfy bed was an added bonus. One of the very best Airbnb places I have stayed in.

Phil and Linda Teller moved to Kettle Falls in 2014 to help a friend buy a house. We found a real treasure of a place, right on Lake Roosevelt, and with our friend, decided to convert the upper level into a B&B, while she lived downstairs. At the same time, Phil and Linda bought a farm on the other side of town. In early 2016, our friend got a job elsewhere and moved to follow her career. We (Phil and Linda) considered options at that point, and we SO enjoyed hosting B&B guests, we decided to continue the business and build on it. Today, we have the original "Riverwood at Lake Roosevelt" house, with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a commercially permitted kitchen, shared living/dining/decks/entertainment area, and a large side yard with a spectacular view.

Seeing a demand for extended stay rentals in the area, we also purchased a house .1 miles up the road that does have a view of the lake but is set back into the woods...a nice forested retreat. This is the "Lakeview on Columbia" house, with 3 bedrooms (one is a suite with 2 beds and shared bath), 3 bathrooms, and shared kitchen/living/dining/deck areas. Between the two houses, we are now able to meet a variety of needs for travelers!

On our farm, we try to grow/raise as many of the ingredients as we can for breakfast at the B&B, and much of the rest we acquire from local farmers or the organic/local section of our locally-owned grocery stores. We are firm believers in supporting local and small businesses! As further local support, we have a collection of menus and pamphlets from nearby restaurants and can offer suggestions for the "good" places to go!

Our sincere wish, as we were setting up these two houses for guests, was to create a place that would provide a great space for people who are looking for serenity and relaxation in a beautiful location, where the furniture is comfortable and the ambience welcoming enough to feel like you are in your home away from home. It is a place where WE would want to stay and keep coming back! Since we are always looking for the "hidden treasure" places that are "off the beaten path" when we travel, we have found that those are the types of guests who find this place most appealing.

Besides cooking and cleaning for our guests, we both have part time jobs which serve the community, so we've become experts at juggling schedules, but you may only see one of us during your visit. A nearby friend/neighbor (she is delightful!) has also partnered with us and fills in occasionally when needed.
