Pura Vida Cottage is a quiet, comfortable country get-away. Located in the middle of the Smokey Mountains near the Blue Ridge Parkway, it is gateway to Nature's Glory. Bakersville is an artists' town with Studio Tours and the Penland School of Arts.
The cottage is cedar sided with lots of open space. Two large decks provide space for outdoor grilling and relaxing. The front yard is excellet for children to run and play with a mountain creek running through it for added fun.
The indoors is just as spacious. A large kitchen equipped with a gas stove/oven, full fridge and cooking utensils makes family meals easy and fun. The bathroom is also large with a easy to step into shower equipped with a grab bar. The master bedroom has a king size bed and full dresser with closet space for long term guests. The guest bedroom has three twin beds, a writing table and a smaller dresser.
The living area is spacious as well. The dining area flows into the entertainment area where there is a flat screen tv, video player, and dvd player. A WII is available for added entertainment. While there is no cable or satellite access for television, our guests will have unlimited access to Netflix via our internet connections. Wireless internet is available throughout the house and from both decks.
We offer land line telephone, cell reception is often spotty here in the mountains.
The deck area includes a propane grill for outdoor cooking, an outdoor swing and several deck chairs for relaxing and an outdoor dining area. Relax on the deck, listen to the music of the creek running by, the songbirds as they greet you, and watch the deer and wild turkey in the field beside the cottage.

Guests are invited to enter the cottage through the front door. It will be unlocked. Guests are welcome to enjoy the property during their stay.
We do have two wonderful horses, with electric fencing. So, please be aware that the fencing is always turned on. If you would like to visit the horses, just let us know. We will be happy to introduce you to them, show you how to give them treats and how to manage the fence.

There are many things to do in and around the Bakersville area. Outdoor activites are almost unlimited: hiking, biking, kayaking, tubing, white water rafting, rock climbing, caving, skiing (winter), fishing, even ziplines.
If you are looking for something less physical, we have some world class artists in our area. Arts and crafts from pottery and weaving to iron works are available. Local artists host Studio Tours throughout the year so you can visit their studios, get to know them, and learn about their trade.
Local events include Festivals and Regional Events such as the Rhododendron Festival, the Roan Moan Bicycle Race, and the annual Storytellers Festival.
We want you to have a good time, to enjoy being at the cottage and simply ask that you be respectful to the property and our neighbors. No loud noises after 10 pm (music, motors, etc)
NC has strict laws regarding the use of fireworks, please abide by them at all times.
No firearms discharge allowed on the property.
Pets are welcome with prior approval, recent flea treatments, and they are current on all shots and worm treatments
Please do not smoke inside the cottage. We provide ashtrays outside on the deck for your convenience.

Nancy is a semi-retired special education teacher currently co-owner of The Gryder Group Educational Services. She lives on the property with her lifelong best friend, several dogs, a cat and two horses. Nancy is dedicated to home and family. Nancy's passions include her family, her animals and helping others. She volunteers for local 4-H programs, horse therapy for children with disabilities and other community based programs.
