This cabin shares the lot with my post and beam home in a quiet, remote setting with mountain views. It has a loft/bedroom for sleeping, a living room with a wood stove and a bathroom with a composting toilet. 4 wheel drive is needed in winter.

El lugar

One step above camping! This comfortable dry cabin shares the lot with my solar house. It is a great place to crash when visiting the white mountains and western Maine. It has electricity but no plumbing and no kitchen. 4 wheel drive is necessary in winter months to get up the mountain road. Bedding and towels are not included. There is a composting toilet in the cabin and a real toilet and shower in the main house for guests to use.

Disponible para huéspedes

There is a shared bathroom in the main house where a shower is available.

Atención a los huéspedes

I will be living in the main house during your stay. The cabin will not be for rent when the house is rented out to other guests.

Otros aspectos destacables

4 wheel drive is necessary in winter months to get up the mountain road. Bedding and towels are not included. It has a sawdust composting toilet which is similar to what they have at some of the remote hiker shelters in the white mountains. The property is "off-the-grid" and solar powered. This means we are running on batteries when the sun goes down. Electric appliances with a heating element cannot be used during your stay as they will greatly deplete the battery charge and possibly damage the electrical system. Examples are: Space Heaters, toasters, hair dryers etc (minimal use is of a hair dryer is OK). There is a generator on site if our electric supply is low due to cloudy days. I may need to run this generator for an hour or two during your stay in the winter months. I will communicate with you if this is necessary and if there is an electric appliance that you absolutely need to use please let me know and it may be possible. (cell phone chargers are fine and don't use that much power) Thank you in advance for understanding!

Joan's place is absolutely amazing, and exactly what we were looking for. Fantastic views, peaceful environment, perfect to scape from the city for a couple of days. Joan was very communicative, flexible, and extremely helpful providing advice on nearby hikes. We will definitely go back, it was a wonderful stay!

This was our second time here and we absolutely love it! The view was amazing with the fall colors. We can't figure out what it is, but we get the most amazing sleep here. Definitely a great value and we plan on making this our go-to spot when visiting the area.

Joan's cabin was such a good value. The cabin and Joan's main house are both post-and-beam constructions (without nails) and solar-powered. While this listing is a lovely, rustic, and secluded option in and of itself, the host, her mindful lifestyle, and the possibility of such a living make this listing more of an experience than just a lodging option. Her tour of the house was educational and interesting as well!

Joan is a saint for nature nuts like us. She is so knowledgeable about the area and has great suggestions about nearly everything! The cabin is awesome and we had a great time and saw some amazing views.

Quiet, remote and clean rental. Eco-friendly and off the grid vacation. Way better than camping in a tent for slightly more money. The cabin is very roomy (2 floors) and a wonderful place to retreat to. The view from the main house deck is amazing. Few mins outside of Freyburgh and 10-15 from North Conway. Only thing to note is the drive way is loose gravel so traveling via motorcycle takes skill but was doable.

Joan's place is magical. My boyfriend and I fell in love with it. The location, the story, and even Joan! We got to talk with her a little about what's going on - and how she lives and what not. The pictures on line don't do the cabin justice. It's so cute! We enjoyed a beautiful sunset, and after a couple nights in our tent, it was nice to have a roof over our heads. Would definitely recommend.
