Like so many others, I've watched Househunters International for many years and said to myself "someday" that will be me. Well my chance came after years of caring for an very elderly mother who passed away not too long ago, which precipitated my decision to retire a little early. I have made four trips to Italy in the last year and a half, and I am currently renting an apartment in Rapallo, Liguria, which is where I saw an episode of the HHI Italia version which showed a couple buying an "Antico" fixer upper townhouse in Cianciana, back in 2012. I looked up the town on AirBnB and picked "Rebecca" and asked about viewing some properties for sale that are listed with MyHouse. I had a great day out looking at several properties with Joe and his boss, and learned a lot. The home was very nice and had the basics I needed, at a great price. Wonderful little town to wander around on foot, and the red paved road made it easy to know my way back home. Wonderful experience and I love Sicilia. Thanks Joe. Highly recommend!!!
Everything was super easy! We were met at the airport by a taxi driver who drove us to the property via a couple of beautiful places and a pit stop for a coffee, so it was more of a guided tour to the region than a transfer. The house was lovely - very typical of the regional style and there's a great little grocers just a little way down the hill. There was no gas when we arrived, so if you plan to cook, this might be worth mentioning in case the gas bottle needs replacing before you arrive. No Wi-Fi but the Clock Tower Café has free Wi-Fi and you could happily sit outside there all day - most people do. Beautiful people, so welcoming, beautiful town, so quaint and steeped in history. We had no plans when we arrived and our days were filled with the suggestions of local people and when I say suggestions I mean them offering to meet us and drive us around to show us things. Joe at My House was great. He even met us at the bus stop so that we got on the right bus back to Palermo for our flight home - maybe he wanted to make sure we left! The coach journey is fine, by the way, and only 9 euros, so if your flight times allow, it's a great money saver. For a small and peaceful town, it had everything you could need and everyone we met was communicative, welcoming and just really lovely. Maybe it's because they eat ice cream sandwiches for breakfast ......
