Sonu the owner & host of Marigold is extremely kind, personable, professional, warm & hospitable. I had also arranged a transport from Varanasi Airport to Sonu's guest house (highly recommend to everyone) since car's aren't allowed inside the area & one needs to walk about 10 mins through busy/narrow lanes. So, its better to book this transfer through Sonu. Sonu & a porter were waiting to receive us from the drop off point and escorted us to his lovely ancestral homes now an Air B&B. Very clean, well maintained,shower/toilets are clean;linens clean & great roof top with Ganges View.Dashashwamedh Ghat is only 5 minutes walk. Sonu makes amazing masala (spice laden) tea that helped my cold as well. He & his mom, were kind to give me hot milk & turmeric to overcome my cold. He arranged our transport onwards to Gaya, walked us to our car, arranged a porter. He is just not a host but a full service concierge as well. He made us feel at home as family, not just guests. The location is the key; you are living with the locals, watching their lives closely, being part of the locals. You can take an easy walk down to the Ghat which is relatively cleaner, quieter & nicer section. From here in 3 min you reach the main Dashashwamedh Ghat. Being so close I was able to walk there myself at night & at sunrise, special! Sonu also owns small/big boats and can take you on a personally guided Sunrise Trip on the ganges, and through the local lanes of Varanasi (Banaras) to taste local delicacies for breakfast. This was my 2nd visit to Varanasi; earlier I had stayed at the TOP luxury hotel (20 mins drive from the Ghats) , but this time chose to be local, on the ghats and I totally rave about this experience, that connected me with Banaras, its people & importantly the spirituality & energies that this city exeburates through Holy River Ganges.
