This unique house is the result of 10 years of collaboration between the owners and the architet Walter Feigle, student of the legendary Ulm Design School in the 50’s. Beside the house’s mesmerizing project, Walter has created also most of the furniture, may decorative objects and great wall paintings; flower vases. All rooms have their particular identity. To bring this unparallel vision to reality, the endeavour demanded patience, hard work, trust and loyalty between the artist and the family.
We welcome guests, including their children, who would love to live the singular experience of a being in a private house that fully expresses the artistic research of one of the most important design schools in the world - and at the same time, reveals the identity, temper and charisma of the homeowners.
Walter Feigle thrived not only as an architect, but also as a photographer, brand & type designer, becoming a genuine representative of the Ulm School spirit. He also invented and personally coordinated challenging structural solutions that pushed the limits of the local contractors - and required “out of the box” solutions that were never before demanded from the island’s crafstmanship (wood, glass, stone and metal). To bring this unparallel vision to reality, the endeavour demanded patience, hard work, trust and loyalty between the artist and the family. Walter passed away in 2016, at the age of 84.
Throughout the years, the house has always been the home of the family and very seldom rented, only for close friends, in small periods. Countless guests, though, have visited the number 11 house – and often the owners amused themselves with a vast collection of reactions to the place, specially when newcomers had no clue about what they were about to find – “I’ve never been in such astonishing house in my life”! Children love it: it is very satisfying to see their spontaneous admiration and enthusiasm for exploring the diffrent spaces, all the way to the ocean, through the paths that surrounds the house, combining carefully manteined gardens with the overwhelming strenght os the tropical forest of Ilhabela.
Disponible para huéspedes
The decision to open the family home to unknown guests is both challenging and tempting; recently we had such great experiences renting places using Airbnb in USA and Japan, so we decided to take the chance and share this experience with people from all over the world, whom we might not have the chance to meet otherwise. Definitevely, this is not a hotel; by the other hand we are commited to hospitality as an important family value. So we are preparing to support our guests and prepare everything in order to provide an unforgettable experience in Ilhabela.
Atención a los huéspedes
Please let us help you to plan the arrival in the house. We are experts in avoiding the ferry boat when it is crowded. And if you are not driving in Ilhabela, we should discuss how to better get here and options to move around.
We have friends in the island who may provide you personal services. Please contact us if you would like to know these reliable professionals. You may rent kayaks, have a professional chef cooking for you, massage, yoga teachers, scuba diving classes, birdwatching, stand up paddle... think of it, we will probably manage to find someone.
We also have tips on restaurants, bars, beaches, trekking, local culture, commerce, local products and craftsmanship.
Otros aspectos destacables
We love the house, we live our life in this house. Please understand that we are going to be selective; this is not a commercial enterprise, its about sharing our values and attittude with life, the environment and society.
We guarantee that there will be no racial, gender or sexual orientation criteria in the selection; on the contrary, if this is something that you feel as a problem while renting private spaces in Brazil, please feel free to send us a message - and please consider booking our house. If you have any suggestions on how to better refer to such social problems, we are eager to improve our communication regarding such relevant themes to society.
Even tough we are aware that Brazil has still enourmous problems with racism, homophobia, misogyny and other forms of prejudice, this will not be accepted in our house or by any member of the staff that will work with us during our stay. Please be sure that we will be aware and willing to discuss any events or impressions, anytime.
Important note for allergy issues: the bug’s life is amazing; buterflies, small and huge metallic beetles, stick and leaf insects, colourful moths... but at night we have mosquitoes and "borrachudos" during the day. Their presence varies a lot during the year, but summer is when thet thrive. During our years in the island we learned that you will be able to deal with them using ordinary reppelents; at night, in bed, we found that the best option is to shelter in our fancy nets. But if you don't feel comfortable with nets, there are other options to consider.
