In summer, watch freighters, kayak; in winter snowshoe, ski, at this bright airy modern 3 bedroom 1 bath cottage with big views of the sky and St. Mary's River. Close to many eastern Upper Peninsula attractions. Beautiful, private!
Our cottage is 900 square feet with an open loft bedroom and two enclosed downstairs bedrooms. The lower level opens onto a large deck. The house is equipped with telescope, binoculars, 2 kayaks, wifi. (kayaks taken in for the winter but we may be able to help you with snowshoes and cross-country skis from our supply). The kitchen has a Keurig coffee-maker, toaster, microwave, gas stove with 2 ovens, dish-washer and the usual kitchen-ware. If additional kitchen items are needed, we can supply them. We do our best to keep the kitchen stocked with basic food supplies - catsup, mustard, oil, salt and pepper, a few herbs and spices, dish soap, aluminum foil - things like that. There is an outdoor charcoal grill and deck chairs. Towels and sheets will be supplied. There is a whirlpool bath-tub, clothes washer and dryer and is a television with cable. The house has an electric fireplace for atmosphere and a small burst of warmth.
Disponible para huéspedes
Guests have access to the house and yard around the house but not neighbors' property. Ships continue navigating the river through the end of January, so, while the river freezes, the ice may be unstable until February when ice fishing and snowmobiling become popular and walking, skiing or snow-shoeing across to the island is possible. Walking or skiing along the river-edge is fairly safe earlier in the season.
Atención a los huéspedes
We'll greet guests, show the house and answer questions, then provide complete privacy unless guests call with a problem or inquiry. We live just a mile from the River House so will be available to our guests at their request most of the time.
Otros aspectos destacables
There are two comfortable queen beds and one pull-out couch in the room with the TV.
Quiet time after 10 pm. No driving on the grass including backing onto the grass to turn around. The ground is often very soft. The house uses an on-site drainfield that can be damaged by large objects being flushed so please nothing down the toilet but toilet tissue. The floor inside the house can be damaged by water so please wipe up spills as quickly as possible. Quiet well-behaved pets considered. No smoking. No interference with wildlife. This is a wetland paradise and the birthplace and home to many water-loving creatures. Avoid the beaver house, muskrat houses and approaching waterfowl and other wildlife.
My husband and I love unwinding at the river house we're listing here - particularly watching the wildlife and freighters going by, cooking outdoors on the deck and kayaking. I'm also a writer and the river house is a perfect retreat for the solitude I need. At our small farm home I raise chickens, garden and like cooking. We travel often, usually to visit our children in Washington State; Portland, Oregon; Washington, D.C. and soon, New York City. We'll meet you when you arrive here, show you around and then give you total privacy unless a problem comes up. We only live a mile away and will help you enjoy your stay here in any way you request.
