143m² (1543 sq ft) on the 1st floor of the house's left wing. Two bedrooms, a large bathroom, a reading room, two toilets, a country kitchen. Access to 40m² (430 sq ft) loggia and garden. Peaceful, on the edge of the village and turned over nature.

El lugar

Beautiful old landmark residence in the heart of Bugey in the Ain region, built in the 12th, 16th and 17th centuries. Very charming, very well restored, warm and bright, quiet, surrounded by nature: flowered patio and gardens, a large field in the back of the house, all fenced. The house is in the village 150m (500 feet) from the center and the train station.
The accommodation comprises an entry hall leading directly to a comfortable lounge / library (books, CDs and vinyl, multiple board games available), country-style kitchen properly equipped (oven and electric stove, microwave, brand new refrigerator, coffee maker, kettle, dishwasher, raclette machine, dishes in good quantity).
Adjacent to the living room, the vestibule has a sink and a toilet as well as a laundry closet equipped with a washing machine (basic needs products, folding dryer available in the loggia).
From the lobby, a large corridor distributes 2 bedrooms and a large bathroom with 2 basins on a beautiful piece of furniture made of solid walnut (please handle with care), a bathtub in the center, a shower and a toilet behind a wall in back of the tub. Plus a towel-warming radiator.
The first room has 2 twin beds, a desk and a large wardrobe closet. The second room down the hall features arches, and is located in the tower of Prost built in the 12th century. This 40m2 (430 sq ft) bedroom has a queen size bed, lazy susan, a folding baby cot is available in the closet. There are also dressers and a desk, and we can install an extra twin bed upon request.
The beds are decent.

Adjacent to the landing, very close to the kitchen entrance, you have access to a 40m2 (430 sqft) balcony facing southeast overlooking the village rooftops and the mountains. Large teak table 8 with chairs, a rocking chair, 2 lounge chairs.

Disponible para huéspedes

You will stay in an independent part of the house, in the left wing. A common staircase in the tower's angle provides access to various independent parts of the house (a tenant occupies only the second floor of the right wing; the garden is common, but very large and composed of different areas ). An entry on the first floor provides access to the house's left wing, a 143m² (1543 sqft) area (there are no neighbors either above or below this part, it is so very quiet, the only thing you will hear are the church's bells!).

Atención a los huéspedes

Our friend Claire lives in nearby and is there for arrivals and departures. There are several people including Claire who take care of the house and can come if necessary or answer questions about the functioning of the house.
Claire welcomes you upon your arrival and explains all the details about the house. She can welcome you Monday to Friday from 17:30 until 20:00. Saturday and Sunday between 10:00 and 20:00. Same for the departures. Bed linen and towels are provided. We are available by phone or email to answer your questions and assist you during your stay. The cleaning will be done after your departure, however the scene is relatively large, we will appreciate if the house is left in clean condition.

Otros aspectos destacables

We truly enjoyed our stay. This home very comfortably accommodated our family of five. Johanna and her family were excellent hosts. As Americans we appreciated the historic ambiance of this home but the enjoyable luxury of a beautifully remodeled bathroom and the convenience of a kitchen. The mountain views, hourly church bells and quaint French town are not something that will soon be forgotten.

Johanna was very responsive when making the booking and throughout the arrival process. The apartment is huge and the kitchen is very well stocked much as described. The place is very old, parts of the building dating to the 1300's which means that you should expect the quirks of staying at a place this old. Although the bathrooms have been modernized in the past, the rest of the apartment has the feeling of staying in a museum with the old books, paintings and furniture pieces. The wifi worked great except in the big bedroom which was down a long hallway from the modem. The kitchen surfaces and bathrooms were clean, however a place this big and old requires a lot to keep it clean with the result that the less easy to reach surfaces obviously had not been seen too in the recent past. One other issue that potential renters should be aware of is that if you are safety minded, this place despite all the old wood, furniture, drapes, etc. does not have any smoke detectors, fire extinguishers or other safety appliances to assist in the event of an incident.

Respuesta de Johanna:
There is a smoke detector in the big corridor inside the apartment but maybe you didn't see. It's the law in France and for this apartment the Electricien and the firemen said that it has to be put in this emplacement . But in France it's not require to have a fire extinguishes in an appartment . If there is a problem the smoke detector ring very very strong .and you have time to go out . Then you call the firemen.

I am so glad I came across this wonderful place to stay. If I can come back to Provence, I will stay here for at least a week. The place has such character that I feel like I practically feel I am French and my family has lived here for years. The lakeside beach is beautiful and close by and great for kids. If you are patient and go slow when you wander through the rooms, you'll notice all the little historical touches as if they've been there for a hundred years. On a mantel is a stack of books of Molière's plays from the 19th century. Small portrait photos from that time are tucked into the bookshelves with journals about the area from 1913. There's a turntable (yay, my childhood!) that works beautifully and great speakers and a selection of vinyl. We played the Tchaikovsky when we arrived and settled down with a bottle of Chardonnay from the area, Bugey. I wandered the wild garden in the late afternoon sun and took pictures of wild flowers bending in the breeze and the view up into the hills, the old walks, gates, stone sink, the trees. Everything is as you see in the pictures. Bathroom is modern and beautiful. Stop at the super market in Seyselle (sp?) for jam and eggs and fruit etc, get bread in the morning from the patisserie near the chateau, and enjoy breakfast with tea or coffee in the kitchen with those huge windows and shutters open to the ancient street outside the courtyard.

This was our second holiday in this beautiful accommodation and again we had a fantastic time. The apartment, village and surrounding area are very lovely, with lots of things to do. The nearby lake (3 minute drive away) is clean and pretty for swimming, and the train station in the village takes you to lots of interesting destinations for day-trips, including such as Chambery, Aix Les Bains, Geneva and Lyon. The local hiking is also excellent with waterfalls, cliffs, hills, views of the Alps and the Rhone nearby. The hosts are friendly and helpful. Recommend!

Really nice place to stay. The place looks like a castle, with rooms filled with character. We booked it for cycling and the area surrounding Virieu was excelente for this. Also plenty of room inside the apartment to store the bikes. The dogs also had a wonderful time.
