Our family cottage was built in the 1950's and features three cozy bedrooms with double bunk beds and one primary bedroom. There are two bathrooms total with shower stalls (no bathtub). Guests will love relaxing by the large fireplace, gathering around the huge dining table or outside on the patio around the fire pit or in the hot tub. Close to Idlewild, Laurel Mtn, and Ligonier. We are not a hotel, but a woodsy family heirloom with a few quirks and lots of personality!

El alojamiento
We are looking for guests who clean up after themselves and treat our family cottage with care; we have detailed check-out guidelines to help. When you reserve with us you are agreeing to be clean and respectful. We personally check in all our guests. BLACK LIVES MATTER. LGBTQIA WELCOME. VETERANS make yourselves at home. We love the full rainbow of human diversity.

PROPERTY OVERVIEW
Our four-bedroom, cozy, antique cottage was hand built by my dad, grandpa and great grandpa in 1952 out of wormy hemlock. The cottage boasts an open floor plan with lots of room to congregate around the dining table, at the breakfast bar and in the living room in front of the large fireplace. There are many architectural elements unique to the period such as pockdet doors, some round windows, and window cranks. Outside, guests enjoy our large brick patio with picnic table, fire pit and hot tub next to the mountain water stream. Our shuffleboard court and croquet set will take you back in time. This beautiful mountain retreat is perfect for your relaxing family getaway, romantic weekend, or small group retreat. This is not a good place for a drinking party. Nope, not at all.

NEIGHBORHOOD
- We are nestled down a dirt road in a valley of the Laurel Highlands of Southwestern Pennsylvania and minutes from the shops and restaurants of Ligonier, the fun of Idlewild Park, the Soak Zone and Storybook Forest. We are also very close to the new Laurel Highlands Ski Resort and 40 minutes from Hidden Valley and Seven Springs. The adventure of Ohiopyle is just a little further.
- There are four other cottages in the immediate vicinity. Some are vacation homes and some are lived in year-round. Please do not take walks on the other properties, and please be kind and gracious to our neighbors.
- The nearby pool/pond is STRICTLY OFF LIMITS and NOT FOR GUEST USE. DO NOT cross the bridge onto this property. We know you want to. Just don’t do it.

LIVING AREA
- The Cottage is furnished in a casual country style that features numerous hand-crafted antiques that contribute to its cozy atmosphere.
- Natural light and beautiful views can be enjoyed through many windows, that can be opened using the little window cranks.
- Recline on the 7-foot couch, rocking chairs and lounge chair after a day skiing, wading, or hiking and watch a movie on the Smart TV with streaming apps.
- The heart of the living room is a six-foot fireplace. After a long day on the slopes there’s no better place to warm your feet and dry your socks. Don’t forget to pack adequate chocolate bars, graham crackers and marshmallows for s’mores!
- If you move furniture and lights around, please put them back before you leave.

BEDROOMS & BATH
- The Cottage’s four bedrooms and two bathrooms all feature pocket doors.
- Please, use only as many beds as you need.
- Three bedrooms have full-sized bunk beds (about 3-4" narrower and shorter than a queen).
- You could sleep two people on each bunk (as long as they really like each other); four people in each of these rooms. Hopefully nobody snores! These rooms do not have space for anything other than sleeping and suitcases, although you can put things in the closet and in the storage bench.
- The fourth bedroom has a queen bed and its own bathroom with sink and shower.
- All the beds are made with fresh sheets and pillow cases. If you prefer to bring your own, let us know.
-The second bathroom also has a sink and shower, as well as a closet with cleaning and first aid supplies.
- The showers are shower stalls-- nothing fancy. There are no bathtubs.
- While we have lots of towels, we ask you to be judicious in your use of them. Only use as many towels as you need. We know you want to use a new towel every time you go in the hot tub, but please try to dry them on the picnic table in between uses.

KITCHEN & DINING
- The small kitchen is located in the middle of the house between the dining and living room, separated from the living room by а rounded breakfast bar with stools.
- The kitchen features a standard stovetop, oven, refrigerator and dishwasher. Nothing fancy, but we have cooked many Thanksgiving dinners here.
- Other appliances include a toaster, microwave, and coffee maker.
- There are adequate pots, pans, silverware etc.
- The kitchen is old and the "modern" appliances often need to be plugged and unplugged to make room.
- We keep the cupboards and fridge stocked with coffee, sugar, tea and hot cocoa and a few staples, but the rest is up to you. Please take what you bring and replenish what you use up.
Friends and family can gather around the dining room’s large table that seats 12, at the breakfast counter, or head outside to dine en plêin air on the patio’s picnic table.
- There are paper goods located in the dry sink between the first and second bedrooms.
- In the china cabinet behind the dining table there are many dishes. DO NOT USE THE GLASS WARE. You may use the pink and white dishes, but nothing else. IT would really be a bummer if any of this was broken.
- Cleaning supplies are under the sink.

The picnic table on the front brick patio is a great place for evening cookouts on the grill and late night conversations around the fire pit and hot tub. The hot tub is kept clean using a bromide system. Before every guest's arrival, we check alkalinity and ph of the water and add the necessary chemicals to ensure that is correctly balanced for use. People with sensitive skin or any open cuts are cautioned against using the hot tub. It is to be used at your own risk.

You will be pretty much on your own during your stay, as we live most of the time in Pittsburgh. We have tried to make the quirks of the cottage as easy as possible for you, but we are also always available by phone, text and email.

There are four other cottages in the near vicinity, which are also vacation homes and are not always occupied. Our neighbors will expect that you respect their privacy and the grounds you are sharing with them. Please do not take walks on the other properties, and please be kind and gracious to our neighbors. The nearby mountain water pool/pond is STRICTLY OFF LIMITS and NOT FOR GUEST USE. DO NOT cross the bridge onto this property.

The Cottage is located approximately 50 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, and three miles West of the historic town of Ligonier. The nearest airport is Latrobe Airport. You can also fly into Pittsburgh International Airport or the airport in Youngstown, Ohio. Let us know where your starting point is and we will provide directions. The Cottage is rural retreat and you will need to rely on a vehicle. The town of Ligonier has grocery stores, galleries, cafes and restaurants and is located just 4 miles away. .

Two Night Minimum

The base rate is for 4 people. There is an additional $25/per person per night charge after the first 4 guests. This applies to children as well, as it corresponds to use of beds, sheets, wear and tear, etc.

In the summer, bring your bug spray as this woodsy area does get buggy in the late afternoons.

This woodsy retreat has its quirks-- slippery steps and bricks when it's wet; surprise roots peaking out from the soft earth; muddy ground. When our guests visit we expect them to take on the responsibility of being cautious and aware of their new surroundings. It is located in a little valley with three other seasonal cottages.

Acceso para huéspedes
Entire home, patio, hot tub, shuffleboard court. NO ACCESS ACROSS THE BRIDGE.

Otros aspectos destacables
Please note: we have more check-out and cleaning guidelines than a typical hotel or rental space. This is to preserve our home and ensure the guests who choose to stay with us are also choosing to follow those guidelines. Also, we cannot always get back up to the Cottage right away, so we ask our guests to take their trash with them (there is no trash pick up).

Ligonier, Pensilvania, Estados Unidos

LIGONIER
Founded first as an Indian settlement in 1727, Ligonier was originally the site of Fort Ligonier, a British outpost and “key to the west,” during the French and Indian War. The battle between the British and French and Indian troops at Fort Ligonier in 1758 was a turning point in the war, won Middle America for the British, and is still celebrated every October during Fort Ligonier Days.

Historic Ligonier, a few miles further on Route 30, is a great place for an afternoon of window shopping, a day at the Sewickley Spa, or an evening in any of its fine restaurants. Our favorites are The Roat Toad, The Eastwood Inn, The Kitchen on Main and the quirky homestyle Transylvanian Darlington Inn. Another must-see for the not faint-of-heart is Joe’s Tavern. A taxidermy hall as bar that adds a dash of local flavor to this historic town. The best kept secret is the Eastwood Inn 661 Old Lincoln Hwy, Ligonier, PA (phone number hid.den)

Fort Ligonier and Museum, (website hidden) located right in town, is a full-scale reconstruction of the (phone number hidden) original fort. Enriching living history activities and pageantry such as reenactments, battles, encampments, folkcrafts and archaeological digs enhance your educational experience with a vividness no textbook can match.

Just three miles down the road from the Cottage you’ll find the historic amusement park, Idlewild Park, founded in 1878, which now encompasses seven “theme areas” including Storybook Forest, The Soak Zone, Olde Idlewild, Jumpin’ Jungle, Hootin’ Holler’, Mister Rogers Neighborhood of Make Believe and Racoon ((website hidden)). Idlewild is an ideal spot for families traveling with children who can burn energy in the Jumping Jungle or enjoying water rides in the Soak Zone. You’ll also find traditional park rides, olde-time roller coasters and other amusements for young and old. Picnic tables are provided so pack a lunch and avoid the concession lines. (URL HIDDEN)

Nearby golf courses include Champion Lakes (phone number hidden) , Donegal Highlands, and Ridgeview nearby. Ski resorts in the area include the Laurel Mountain resort (website hidden), Seven Springs (the largest in Pennsylvania) (website hidden), and Hidden Valley, (website hidden).

Just a little deeper into the Laurel Highlands you’ll find Ohiopyle on the Youghigheny River, an area along the rails-to-trails system renown for some of the best white water rafting, kayaking, and beautiful bicycle trails. Don’t forget to visit Frank Lloyd Wright’s Falling Water, (website hidden) and Kentuck Knob (website hidden). The Laurel Caverns, a 435 acre geological park that features Pennsylvania’s largest cave is also located not far from Ohiopyle State Park on Route 40 (website hidden).

I am a mother of two adorable boys living in Southern California. I am a working professional with ten years experience in the not for profit sector, and have a master's degree in Russian Literature. I started an art studio in my children's elementary school where I get my hands dirty teaching the kids how to be creative. I love to travel when I have the chance and have so far loved every single one of my airbnb experiences! I've stayed in places with no contact with a host, as well as in real "bnb's" where I ate breakfast together with my hosts every day. Every experience is unique and I love the adventure. I work hard to translate my experiences as an Airbnb guest into my role as a host.
