Made of high hills, valleys and rivers, covered with wild flowers, and trees of many species, rich in history, culture, and nature, Blue Mountain Oasis will greet you and take your breath away. Situated on the top of Blue Mountain, an 800 acre mountain reaching up to 2,200 feet, higher than any other mountain in the vicinity, BLUE MOUNTAIN dominates a magnificent country—hills and valleys, fields and forests, rivers and ravines.

It is covered with trees, from the soaring tulip poplar and the majestic oak, to the whispering pine, the charming dogwood and the colorful redbud. Wild flowers abound—the wild anemone, first to appear in the spring, the humble bloodroot, the glamorous trillium, the precious and rare lady’s-slipper. In that enchanting setting, roam a host of wild animals, none dangerous and all interesting to watch—deer, raccoons, woodchucks and squirrels (including the flying variety), grouse, quails and wild ducks, and innumerable other birds which paint flashes of brilliant colors in the air and fill the silence of the woods with their gay and harmonious songs.

Rich in history dating back to the 1800’s, Blue Mountain Oasis had Mosby Rangers hiding out on the mountain during the Civil War; escaped slaves found the mountain a place of safety before the Civil War; the battle of Cedar Creek, one of the most decisive of the Civil War, was fought in the Valley just below Blue Mountain and could be viewed from a high point on the mountain. John Marshall, the first chief justice of the USA, lived on the mountain.

Blue Mountain was lovely and we really enjoyed eating on the porch, hanging at the lake, hot-tubing, and watching the big Luna moth that landed on the window for all of saturday. There were some problems with bugs and mold in the basement of the house. Jason was very accommodating and offered a discount for the inconvenience, but it would have been nice not to have to have dealt with this type of thing during a vacation.

Respuesta de Jason:
Rachael, thanks for being our guest. Millipedes make an annual invasion on Blue Mtn this time of year, given how rainy it's been. Our bug guy treated, but we neglected to review the property prior to your check-in the day of, so sorry for the dead bugs. The basement is 80% underground. No physical mold exists, however, the dampness makes it a bit musky. As a result, that is why we keep the de-humidifier in the basement for guests to turn on and get the humidity down this time of year.

Overall we had a good stay. There were some issues with cleanliness in the form of large cobwebs and a dirty bathtub. There is also no walkway from the driveway to the front door so this was tricky to navigate in the dark and also slippery after a rain. We really enjoyed sitting on the back deck which was very secluded. The hot tub was clean and enjoyable. Wifi and TV worked as advertised. Beds were of average comfort level. Kitchen was well stocked with utensils, plates, cutlery, etc. Check in procedures were as expected and the the communications we had with Jason were prompt and helpful. He sent a message shortly after our arrival to see how things were going, which I appreciated.

After a long day out and about, Jason's place is one to come home to especially with it being so quiet. Jason was always ready to help and provided a few good places to see and go for a bite. Worth noting Apple House is a good stop by for a quick meal.

The house is large and very comfortable as mentioned in previous reports. It was a great location for a relaxing rural break - especially for hiking and vineyard tours. Would recommend and would love to return.

Jason's place is conveniently located on a quiet mountain top. Furniture and carpet are pretty old but if you don't mind that it's a great spot to stay for a few days and go hiking, wine drinking, etc.

Respuesta de Jason:
Kelly, thanks for being our guest! The carpet in the entire place was replaced 3 years ago. We might replace the main room with hardwood, as it gets beat up with people coming in and out. Your feedback is important, thanks. The couch is 5 years old, we'll see if we can't replace it or do something else. Sorry it wasn't up to your standards.
