We're in a quiet, safe neighborhood minutes away from central WIlliamsburg, 6 blocks to the subway (Graham Ave L-train: 3 stops to Manhattan). Great local cafes, delis, grocery stores, bakeries, restaurants, bars and handy laundromat.
This is a light, airy and calm one bedroom apartment on the top floor of a three floor walk-up.
The space includes a large open-plan lounge through to office area with wooden parquet floors. There are 3 large sash windows at both the front and back of the building. There's a calm, understated European feeling to our furnishing, several artworks from significant New Zealand artists on the walls, various home-wares from local Brooklyn designers & makers, as well as a few quirky pieces from our travels and several house plants.
The kitchen is a great place to spend time, with a large german beer-hall table & industrial hanging lights. It is well equipped with a large fridge/freezer, regular gas stove, sink & plenty of cook and kitchen-ware (including all-clad and le creuset pots & pans, juicer, hand-blender, a well stocked collection of spices & plenty of cookbooks).
We have brought the bathroom up-to-date ourselves, with wooden floors, a nice large bathroom mirror, hand-built free-standing oak shelves with plants & plenty of space for your toiletries, bath with shower (& good water pressure!)
We have Wi-Fi, & speakers with iPod/iphone connection. We don't have TV. It is a clean and tidy space (we have a no-shoe policy), the neighbours friendly and pleasant, and the neighbourhood is wonderful – calm, safe, friendly, family-focussed, lots of long-standing local stores alongside some great new spots. Bear in mind however that this is an old New York building and like many, this means slightly uneven floors, some rust spots on the old traditional radiators, window frames with a century of paint, etc. – this is classic old fashioned NY character. It used to be a family home & this is all what, to us, gives it it's charm. The apartment featured in a well respected interiors magazine, and our friends & visitors always comment on how lovely the space is. However, if you are looking for an immaculate minimal modern space with no quirks you would probably be best in a new building :)
This is a great location to explore Williamsburg and all it has to offer (great bars, restaurants, live music etc), without being right in the middle of the noise and chaos – we are an 8 block stroll from the hub of Williamsburg (Bedford Ave) and 3 blocks from McCarren Park. It is also extremely easy to get to Manhattan from here on the L train (6 blocks from our apt, 3 stops to the East Village in Manhattan). That said, there also plenty of really wonderful cafes, bars & restaurants all within a few blocks of our apartment too. – My partner Nik & I are also happy to give you some recommendations of some good spots in the neighbourhood if you haven't visited before.
No shoes inside, and keep the music and general noise levels to a respectable level. We love our neighbours and want to keep it that way :)
My partner Nik & I are a creative couple who run a design business with studios in Brooklyn NY and Auckland NZ. We're often between cities and like to have like-minded people look after our space while we're away.
