I live in a beautiful 'old style' Japanese house. The mountains are behind me, Shimanto River is close and beside me are rice fields. Your area is spacious for two with tatami and wooden flooring. You will experience country Japan

El lugar

Two adjoining tatami rooms will be yours to use during your stay. If you have more than four guests or if you want to use an extra room (maybe you want to banish the snorer to another space), this can also be arranged though there are some drawbacks with this. The kitchen and other facilities are available of course but it is a shared space. I have a large fridge also so you are welcome to put things in it so you can cook during your time here. (just a reminder that vegetarian/pescatarian cooking only) If you use Instagram look at the tag #ricefieldsriversandmountains I often post photos of what I see or do here in Kochi.

Disponible para huéspedes

I have a front yard with lots of parking and a mountain behind me. If you would like to light a fire in the front yard. Let me know in advance. Inside the house you will have sole access to two tatami rooms. The toilet, bathroom and kitchen are all shared spaces.

Atención a los huéspedes

Sometimes I will not be here. I love camping and surfing so if the sun is shining and the surf is up then I am out! (I use the term 'surfing' very loosely, I can barely stand, but I love it). If I will not be present I will inform my guests in advance.
I have compiled a folder of local information and personal recommendations to help my guests. I am always happy to help in any way I can. You may need help here. The lack of English makes it difficult and secret local info can open up different possibilities for people.

Due to the traditional nature of where I live, it is a little difficult for me to accept single males. I am really sorry, however, single females and families and couples of any configuration are very welcome. My other rules are - cigarettes may be smoked but only in the middle of the rice field. Also, it's a pescatarian kitchen and no red wine on the tatami, particularly if I am drinking it. I love and respect this space so of course I would hope that you will do the same. I have a dog but I keep him very separate from my guests. If you are happy to deal with his over enthusiastic nature however, you are welcome to meet him but this is always best done in my presence.

Aspectos que también debes tener en cuenta
Es necesario utilizar las escaleras - As with most traditional Japanese houses there is a large step up into the house from the genkan (the place you leave your shoes)
Hay mascotas en la propiedad - I have a largish dog
Hay zonas comunes que se comparten - kitchen, bathroom, toilet, hallway

Rosie was great from the moment of booking. She answered my questions and helped us out with a few tips for foreigners. We actually met Rosie at a beach since we were both in the area. She was immediately warm and friendly. We drove on to her house to unwind while she continued with her day. The house is amazing! The space is two large tatami rooms, which I appreciated after staying in a few small spaces on our previous trips. One room has Japanese antiques and artifacts on display which really adds interest. Rosie provided us with water, tea, coffee, and some really great maps. Because there can sometimes be insects in certain seasons, Rosie has provided a mosquito netting tent over the sleeping mats. It made for a really unique experience. I have to say though, we didn't have a problem with insects at all. Rosie is a fantastic host, because she is attentive to her guests while going about her own life. We had dinner with Rosie and some friends in a nearby town, and she gave us lots of suggestions for things to do near Shimanto. We loved our stay with Rosie!

We had a great experience staying at Rosie's. The space was in the traditional Japanese style and very comfortable. Rosie also had awesome recommendations for stuff to do around the area. Highly recommended!

Rosie's place is an amazing, large Japanese traditional home a short drive out of the small town of Kubokawa. The area is beautiful - you really need a car to enjoy it. An hour plus from Kochi. The space is very big & beautiful- and Rosie goes out of her way to ensure your comfort. She has a ton of information on the area and truly wants you to appreciate and discover it. Rosie is such a great person -so easy to talk with- a fun, genuine soul! We feel so lucky to have stumbled upon this place. Gorgeous house & host in remote area of Shikoku. It was well worth the drive!

This place was absolutely phenomenal! The surrounding area is breath taking! It is as gorgeous as it can be. The hospitality that my friends and I received from Rosie were very warm and helpful as well! She was very flexible with her time and schedule and most importantly super friendly! Her place is a very traditional Japanese house and it has all the traditional old Japanese house features but very well cleaned and beyond standards. The Shimanto River is extremely close from her place and maybe a 30 minute ride up the river, there is a place where you can canoe and fish as well. All the fun places in Kochi are about an hour ride away so if you have a vehicle, you are basically in the best spot. When I was there, it was a bit cloudy and rainy as well so I didn't have the opportunity, but the Shimanto area is also well known for its great view of the stars. I heard you can canoe down the river under the stars. How awesome will that be! The house owner, the surrounding area, and its location was way beyond my expectation and I would love to go back and spend more time at her place!

This beautiful Japanese style house is very well maintained and cherished by Rosie. She was very efficient and quick in response and making the rooms ready although we gave her a short notice. Really great host! We had an amazing experience there and would definitely like to come back!

I came to Japan years ago. Firstly I fell in love with Kochi and its people and environment, then I fell in love with my dog and then I fell in love with my now, husband. I have definitely found my 'happy place' here. I live in the most beautiful environment I have ever experienced and I want to share it. I consider myself to be extremely lucky and I want others to share my luck. My goals of eating and growing healthy food, exercising and socialising with interesting, inspiring people are met here on a daily basis. This area has a heart that I have not experienced elsewhere in Japan. Please come and allow Kochi to cast it's spell on you. You will never forget the beauty of the river, the ocean, the mountains and the people.
