We (4 adults and 2 toddlers) stayed at Villa Smaro for two weeks and we really enjoyed the place a lot. The villa is very close to the airport (15-20 minutes by car) and it is located between two amazing beaches, Loutraki and Marathi (the first one at 5 minutes’ walk and the second at 5 minutes by car). It was the perfect combination of relaxing time, nice weather and good location for beaches and restaurants. The outside of the house is beautiful, with a nice garden (ground floor) and an amazing deck with a swimming pool on the first floor. We’ve used the swimming pool quite a lot (whenever we were lazy enough not to go to the beach) and, despite a few wasps, which we fought with peppermint oil (it does the trick), we very much enjoyed both the water and the amazing view over the sea. One of the best parts of the experience was that the owners have been overwhelmingly nice with us, with their attention to details. They were always quick to reply to any request we had (they made sure our kids had everything they needed from high chair, plates, toys and more!). Last, but not least, they have an amazing olive oil! There is a very good tavern 5 minutes away from the villa, we almost ate there every day. The only cons I would say in this villa were the size of the rooms and some “air conditioning setting” problems. We’ve all had great time and we would recommend the place to other families and friends. Thanks a lot for such unique hospitality!

Our experience at Villa Smaro was simply fantastic. It is a lovely property set up in a hill overlooking an amazing bay and surrounded by olive groves. The hosts were great in answering our questions in advance and were most welcoming to us when we arrived at the Villa. The drive from the airport was fairly easy and traffic free; it took about 15 minutes. We quickly learned that it is difficult to plot greek addresses on to our Garmin, so I navigated using (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps on my phone (Villa Smaro appears on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps) and had no issues with signal reception. The house was well stocked when we arrived with cooking essentials like oil, salt, sugar, and all sorts of goodies, like bottles of wine, beer, coffees and teas, and a bottle of Raki. I won't repeat the same things other travellers already noted, but I will emphasize that the pictures do not do the house justice, that everything looks more amazing when you are there, and that the location is fantastic. The beaches of Loutraki (down the hill) and Marathi (left after leaving the villa) are both amazing and reachable by foot (I do recommend you drive to Marathi instead for convenience). There are several restaurants in both beaches and a taverna at the foot of the hill, guaranteeing you will have good choices to eat and drink. I had no issues paying with credit cards at either beach for food or drinks. When travelling to Chania, I recommend the car park at the Carrefour at Mitropolitou, which stays open until 2 am. My favorite part of the house was the pool deck, the water felt great day and night. Be warned that the pool gets a lot of attention from wasps, who seem to like the pool water, I did not have any issues with them and noticed that after a few cannonballs dives into the pool, they get the hint and leave or at least stay in the sidelines. It is a property set in the countryside, so expect the odd mosquito, ants (mostly outside), and cicadas--tons of them. So, like I said above, we had a fantastic experience, this was a great villa that I will be certain to book again in the future and one that I cannot recommend enough. Thank you to Klerhos, Costas, and Nikos for your hospitality and if anyone out there is still thinking on whether or not to book, hesitate no more and book this place.

We stayed at Villa Smaro four days at the end of October and had a great time. The layout of the outside area and the pool is really nice and with a fantastic view. The bathroom was very modern and spacious. Since it was out of season many restaurants were closed in the area so you have to drive into Chania to find open restaurants. There is a bakery 10 minutes drive away in the village Sternes and smaller Mini markets nearby for groceries, bigger supermarkets are located closer to Chania. The host was very helpful and had left some snacks and drinks for us when we arrived late and was easy to communicate with. We would recommend this house if you want to visit Chania and Loutraki!

We had a wonderful stay at Villa Smaro. The villa has a pretty garden and lovely terraces where we enjoyed the October sunshine and views of the blue blue sea, and swims in the pool. Our son enjoyed being a bit independent in the separate room on the terrace. Nikos and Smaro were there to welcome us on arrival, and their warmth and generosity made us feel so at home from the start. They gave us home-produced wine and olive oil and provided us with a fridge full of food when we arrived. All our contact with them and their family has been full of kindness. Beautiful Loutraki beach and a taverna are just 5 minutes walk away and the bigger Marathi beach with more restaurants is also within walking distance. The nearest shop is about 3km away however so you'd be stuck without a car. And we did get used to the overhead jets! We had a perfectly lovely late season holiday at Villa Smaro.
