Otros aspectos destacables

The 20 acre retreat is within the Puna Forest Reserve and our grounds are surrounded by rainforest that is part of the retreat. Hawaiian Natives own the non-private property within the reserve to protect the Native Ohia forest that is sacred to them. The reserve was acquired by the Trust for Public Lands and transferred to the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. The reserve is endangered species habitat for the Endangered Hawaiian Owl, Hawk, and Bat. While these species are otherwise very rare they are often seen at the retreat. Researchers continue to identify new species and there is ongoing collaboration to control invasives.

The Ohia Forest has giant ferns, diverse species of orchids, epiphytic plants, strawberry guava, passion fruit, geckos, praying mantis and songbirds. The rainforest is very dense and so we ask guests to remain on the grounds for their safety unless we discuss the specific hazards. The retreat property surrounding the grounds feature many skylights into lava tubes as well as lava trees and caves. The Puna Rainforest is invigorating to see, taste, hear and feel.

Jacklynn has a beautiful cottage, orchid and estate. We loved being so close to nature - the moonlight in the house at night, fresh air and birds chirping in the morning making a perfect setting to enjoy our morning cup of coffee. The cottage is also fully equipped and is located very close to the lava viewing area and other attractions on the west side of the Island. Definitely recommend staying here on your next trip to Big Island!

If you're looking for a quiet place close to the volcano, this is the place! We were able to spend some late nights checking out the lava without having to worry about a long trip home. And, after long days out in the sun, the cool nights here were a blessing! It's a fantastic retreat, I'm really looking forward to sharing this place with more friends and family!

I stayed for 2 days as I explored the Lava Boat tours and Volcano National Park. Location was convenient for both. The cottage was perfect, clean and post and pics describe it well. I booked the same date and arrived late night. Check-in was easy and smooth. I would stay here a again for sure!

We spent three fantastic nights at Jacklynn's studio retreat in Pona. This is the best way to experience the big island! Pahoa and the broader area is remote but filled with great swimming and volcano sights. We loved the studio which had everything you would need for a stay. We did not check out the private hiking trail or the pool but they looked pretty cool! We would definitely stay again if we return to this part of the island!

This little blue cottage was a great launch pad for some wonderful adventures. We enjoyed exploring near by activities such as the night market (SO GREAT! Don't miss it!), Kapoho Tide Pools, and Ahalanui warm pond. We were shocked by the AMAZING food we had in Pahoa. The small strip of shops and restaurants doesn't look like much but Pele's Kitchen had the best and most affordable breakfast we had and Kaleo's served us the delicious and afforable dinner we had. We paid 3 times as much for dinner at a fancy resort for food that didn't hold a candle to the melt in your mouth ribs we had at Kaleo's. The space was generally clean and offered all the basic necessities we needed for our stay. It was a solid step above a hotel room, much more comfortable, and affordable. It was nice to have our own porch, explore the property, meet the other guests, and have many visits with our favorite Hawaiian cat, Oscar. The house feels secluded and quiet. When the clouds would clear, we had a spectacular view of the stars. There really is little to no cell service and the Wifi signal was slow and occasionally inconsistent. Be prepared to unplug, but don't worry, Oscar really is the best cat ever, he will keep you company. Jacklynn was VERY quick to respond to our needs and even though we didn't get to meet her, it felt like she was taking really good care of us.
