We stayed in Melvin's Rosewood House which is next door to one of his other rentals, Melvin's House. It is a fully equipped two bedroom home with a kitchen living room and dining area that was very comfortable for two adults and two teenage kids, and later just the adults. The parking can be a challenge, and we suggest backing in rather than backing out. During the rainy season when we were there, you can expect some level of insects coming out of the ground and getting stranded on the patio, but they are only part of the natural setting and are easily swept up and out of the way. There are also lots of birds, butterflies (including Morpho's), agouti, and coati on the property so keep your eyes open for wildlife. Melvin was available to deal with any issues that came up and has a wealth of knowledge of the local fauna and flora. We really liked being on the San Luis side of Monteverde which is much less congested than the rest of town, and close to the Cloud Forest Preserve. We can heartily recommend this very peaceful retreat.

This place is amazing! We were looking for the space to explore nature, wake up to see all kinds of wildlife right outside our window, and really get away from it all -- and we found it here. Melvin is the perfect host and was so helpful answering any questions we had about Monte Verde and recommending activities for our family to enjoy. He even made reservations for us! Navigating the steep driveway is not for the faint-of-heart, so make sure you have a 4-wheel drive (which you will definitely want for this part of Costa Rica anyway). But once you check in, you won't want to leave!

If you love nature, this home is great. You'll be listening to birds all day long, when it rains,- you'll hear it loud and clear. You'll see all see all kinds of bugs displayed on the windows as soon as you turn on the light inside the house. Great house for nature lovers: birds, bugs, animals, rain, thunder, lightning... you'll experience it all. The only inconvenience is that the main house is a separate structure and not connected to the 1st bedroom or 2nd bedroom, which is above the 1st bedroom and both bedrooms have separate entrances. So, if you'd want to go from your bedroom to the kitchen, you'd have to go outside to go from one structure/building to another (just a few steps only though). Overall, we had a great time and Melvin with his family are amazing hosts.

This place was awesome. Melvin was a delight! So friendly and knowledgeable. Awesome wildlife right out the back front door. We enjoyed roasting marshmallows and checking out the beautiful property. My kids loved the giant Ficus tree with climbing chains. I wish we would have booked this location longer.

What a great experience in the cloud forest of Monteverde! Melvin and his wife were incredibly kind and he was a wealth of knowledge regarding the forest and its inhabitants. He brought us to a great restaurant, El Sabor Tico, and guided us on the hanging bridges tour through the forest. He showed us lots of plants and birds and even tracked down and showed us the elusive quetzal! His house is nestled in the forest with lots of windows and falling asleep and waking to the sounds of the nature was truly a great experience. We'll definitely stay with him again next time we're in Monteverde.

Was born in San Luis de Monteverde, within a Costa Rican family, surrounded by mountains of Monteverde Cloud Forest. In a world where beauty is natural and scenic sunsets and rainbows enchant the visitor.
The birds within a rich ecosystem were my game since childhood. They were getting ready to be a lover of nature and everything that contributes to peace in an ecological environment.
My studies as a naturalist guide began in 1986, when I was awarded a scholarship by the program Rare Conservation. Their mission was to teach us to "conserve, preserve and rehabilitate tropical ecosystems and their biodiversity."
Today I also feel an environmental educator teaching about nature as it works. Cultivating a seed in the visitor, with our children. If we successfully transmit the message to the youth, we adults responsible and knowledgeable in the future, who will love and protect the only land that was inherited us.
