In the House
Please leave your outside shoes in the shelves at the entrance, and ask your guests to the same. Kathmandu roads are dirty, and we don't want to track that dirt into the house. You can wear indoor shoes or the warm slippers provided.
The common areas are on the top floor of the house. There is a living room with cable TV, a kitchen, and a huge terrace overlooking Aksheshwor Mahavihar and the Kathmandu Valley. You are welcome to hang out, cook, and otherwise make use of these spaces. Please try to do your cooking on the induction (electric) cookstove when the power is on.
Drinking water is provided, and will be in a jar in the kitchen.
A simple breakfast of tea/coffee, eggs, bread, and/or cereal can be provided for an extra charge of Rs. 150. If you want breakfast, please let us know the night before.
We are running on backup power most of the time. Please do not use power-heavy appliances such as hair dryers and heaters on backup power. You can charge laptops and cell phones with backup power but we would prefer if you did it when the city electricity supply is on. All the lights in your room and in common areas are set to work on backup power as well. Please turn off the lights that you are not actually using, whether it is in your room, toilet, or in common areas such as the kitchen, living room, or staircase.
We have two electric geysers to heat water when the solar power is not enough. That ensures enough water for hot showers in the morning. However, do think about others when tempted to take long showers. The ground floor room has a gas geyser for hot showers. Please, please, ensure adequate ventilation when using this hot shower; you can leave the bathroom door open. Do not stay too long in the shower.
Laundry service for clothes can be arranged for Rs. 150-200, depending on how much clothes you have. Please bring your clothes in a bag to the kitchen/dining areas, and we will arrange for it to be washed.
You can smoke outside; on your balcony or the roof terrace. Please do not smoke inside your room.
Toilet paper is provided in all bathrooms, and will be replenished during cleaning.
We have daily cleaning service. Your rooms will be cleaned once a week, and fresh linen will be provided. If you need your room cleaned between the weekly cleanings, please let us know and we can arrange for it.
There is a $5 extra charge per guest if you want your guests to stay overnight in the house.

I'm currently using airbnb to list my parents' space in Lalitpur. I am helping coordinate the booking and check-in process. Mostly, it will be my parents meeting you and taking care of you. They are a very hospitable Nepali couple, ready to help with anything you might encounter in Nepal. They are interested in folk music, and active in the community. Everybody loves them!
