Located on the corner of Dartmouth & Newbury Streets in the Back Bay, this historic 1 bed/1 bath is the perfect apartment for anyone who craves the excitement of city living. A half-block from the Boston Marathon finish line & steps from the subway.

El lugar

Originally built in 1886 as the Hotel Victoria, the building is considered one of Boston’s few examples of “Exotic Revivals” which is the grouping given to Victorian architects who sought inspiration in remote locations. Designed by John Faxon as an example of Moorish Revival, the building in the heart of Copley Square has lent a cosmopolitan flair to the city’s Back Bay neighborhood for over a hundred years. The apartment was originally a part of the Hotel Victoria’s lobby. The intricate flooring in the living room has been fixed as best able, and the original stained glass windows were restored in 2006 after they had begun to buckle from the passage of time; they are the only original stained glass windows that remain in the building today. High ceilings and large rooms offer a spacious retreat that is furnished in a comfortable, modern style with eclectic touches throughout.

Disponible para huéspedes

The spacious 1 bedroom unit is on the 1st floor of this historic building; there are approximately 10 steps from the street into the lobby and the unit is directly off the entrance.

There is a common roof deck that can be used during the summer months.

The entire apartment has WiFi and window A/C units during the summer months.

The bedroom offers one bed, a desk, two large closets, TV with cable, a white noise machine, clock radio, a ceiling fan and reading chair overlooking the hustle and bustle on the streets below.

The spacious living room has two couches, a large flat-screen TV, dining room table with chairs for two and a non-working fireplace.

The kitchen was last renovated in 2008 and offers stainless steel appliances including dishwasher, a granite counter top and cherry cabinets.

The bathroom has a shower, sink and toilet.

There is shared laundry on the floor that can be accessed with a card purchased in the lobby.

There is a common building roof deck that you are welcome to access (via elevator/spiral staircase). All building rules re: roof deck usage must be obeyed.

If your plans have you staying for a longer period, I am happy to arrange for additional cleanings during your stay if desired.

Atención a los huéspedes

I am very well dialed into the Boston scene, as my company does PR for many activities, restaurants, bars, etc. I am happy to help with dining and activity recommendations based on your preferences, and even have you VIP'd if your interests align with places at which I have connections.

Otros aspectos destacables

Also, please recognize that this apartment is in the middle of a busy neighborhood. I lived there for years, it was rented out frequently in the past by a short-term corporate rental agency and there were never any complaints re: noise. But if you are the type who requires absolute silence, this is not the place for you.

No smoking! If I smell smoke or if there is other evidence of smoking, you will forfeit your entire security deposit.

The fireplace is (URL HIDDEN) do not use it as it will cause significant damage. If you do, you will forfeit your entire security deposit.

I would consider VERY well behaved pets. A pet would lead to $75 being added to the cleaning fee. You are responsible for any damage caused by your pet. If a pet stays here without pre-approval, you will forfeit your entire deposit.

Check in and check out time can be flexible depending upon the dates you are looking for and whether anyone else is staying. Unless we arrange otherwise, check in and check out is at noon.

The cleaning fee covers two hours. If additional cleaning is required, you will be charged $50/hour, deducted from your deposit.

Out of respect for my neighbors, I must insist upon no parties being held at my place. If my neighbor complains about a party happening, or if there is a big mess left at the place, you will forfeit your entire deposit.

You agree to follow all of the rules of the building, including trash and roof deck rules. Any issues with not following the building rules and you forfeit your entire deposit.

Location. location. location. If you are looking for a hip cool place to drop your bags, go to work or out on the Copley social scene, this place is for you. Marlo is a responsive hostess and the place is functional. However, if you are looking to relax for a few hours, make a meal and watch a movie this is not a cozy atmosphere.

Awesome location in Boston, amazing accommodations & wonderful host! Not a spot if you are mouse sensitive, but if you like the energy of city life it is the perfect spot!

Marlo's place is absolutely beautiful -- the interior and furnishings are extremely unique and comfortable. And the location is absolutely without compare. I was there for a conference taking place at the Convention Center, and it was just a few blocks away. The apartment is also right next to the subway entrance, and smack in the middle of Newbury Street, a central shopping and nightlife corridor. As some of the other reviews mention, part of being so central is that there can be noise in the weekend evenings, but it did not prevent me from having a lovely stay -- though I was grateful it was a bit quieter during the week, when I needed to do some work in the evenings. Marlo herself was a great host, clear and communicative, and very accommodating -- my flight arrived early in the morning, and she allowed me to check in as soon as I got to Boston. Would love to come back and stay in Marlo's place again!

Beautiful apartment in a great neighborhood right off Newbury Street and just a few blocks from Boston Common.

Great flat with plenty of old school character and in a great location; a short walk from back bay station if arriving by train and close to the conference centre, shops and restaurants. Boston commons and the more historic centre is about 10 to 15 minutes walk. Only downside can be the noise - 'Lolita Cocina and Bar' is underneath the flat and whilst you cant hear the bar the queue for it starts under your bedroom window. Can get noisy on Fri/Sat nights with ~10 people queuing up under your bedroom window, no issues Sunday to Thursday.

Overall, the apartment is nice. It’s in an old building so there’s going to be some imperfections. The location is great with the walking distance to most everything being ideal. My one note for those looking at this possible rental is that for those who are light sleepers this place won’t be your sleep nirvana. There’s a bar directly below the apartment that closes at 2am and the crowd behavior at that time is to be expected. During our stay, there were a few fights and screaming matches that were exacerbated by the world’s angriest liquor, tequila. If you plan on being out until 2 am, you will be fine.

I'm originally from Detroit, moved to Boston to go to law school and never left. Today I own an integrated marketing firm with offices in Boston and New York. Many of our clients are in the hospitality business, which means I am definitely in the know about the restaurant/bar scene and am happy to make recommendations and even do some VIPing if appropriate!

I lived in this apartment for years. I know you're not supposed to get attached to real estate, but I can't help it, I love it! It's literally in the heart of one of Boston's most coveted neighborhoods, with everything literally steps from your front door. If you are the kind of person who wants to experience the hustle and energy of Boston, this is your place!
