DESCRIPTION OF HISTORIC PLACE
Willie's Bakery is a two-storey Italianate building located by the Johnson Street entrance to Waddington Alley. It can be identified by its bracketed cornice and ornately decorated mouldings above upper storey windows, and its cast iron storefront columns.
HERITAGE VALUE
Willie's Bakery is important to the City of Victoria's heritage as a product of late nineteenth century entrepreneurship. Opened as a bakery by miller and baker Louis Wille in 1887, it provides an important reflection of a typical building and business that contributed to the city's boom time between 1886 and 1892, and supported the city's growth as the economic hub of British Columbia.

Custom-built by architect Elmer H. Fisher, it is notable that Willie's Bakery housed the oldest continuous bakery operation in British Columbia's history (Wille's Bakery, (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)). The functional and attractive design is a reflection of the architectural idioms of the time, and illustrates the ability of the architect to articulate the enterprising success of its original owner. Likewise, the fact that this place saw a rebirth in 1989 as Willie's Bakery, after a 23-year hiatus, speaks to the importance of Old Town traditions and the suitability of the architecture to its original purpose.

An important example of intact nineteenth century Italianate architecture, Willie's Bakery also adds to Victoria's physical heritage. It survives as a significant piece of the city's commercial and architectural history, and plays an integral role in the continuity of downtown revitalization. It is a landmark at the Johnson Street entrance to Waddington Alley, and an important part of a precinct of rehabilitated and revitalized buildings which perpetuates the heritage of picturesque streetscapes and promotes urban livability.

We had a wonderful 3-night stay in Joyce's condo, which is centrally located, quiet (except for see gulls!) and very well stocked with everything we could have needed including extra towels and linens. Everything was clean, modern, sleek and looked like an IKEA showroom. We would definitely stay here again!

This condo is very true to the description on AirBNB. The unit and building is recently renovated with updated, clean and modern appliances and fixtures and a brightly lit exterior hallway. The bathroom and kitchen were clean and the flooring, tiles and counters felt new. We loved having a reliable washer and dryer that worked great. The location of this condo is excellent, in the heart of Chinatown and just feet from Fan Tan Alley. Funky shops and great restaurants nearby, with the Inner Harbour 4-5 blocks away. And, we felt very secure traveling with 2 kids, knowing that our unit had a secure locking gate on the street, secure, locked access to the elevator, and another secure keypad lock on our unit. We could see the water from our unit and we looked down over a well-manicured inner courtyard. This place was a great find for our family. Thank you!

Great apartment in the heart of Chinatown. Amazing coffee shop right outside the main doors. Great restaurants. A little street noise on a busy Saturday night but nothing too crazy. Walking distance to all the tourist stops. Joyce was very easy to deal with and the entrance to the apartment was seamless. Thanks Joyce

I arrived at Victoria last February and love this Garden City. I have tried my best to make a home away home for guests. I understand what a guest is expecting from a host since I stayed in some vacation rentals when I traveled.

I am currently managing five suites, which are all well furnished and located in the heart of Victoria. Three of them are modern and two of them are heritage buildings.
