My name is Steve, and I am writing this review under the account of my partner Jill. I am very familiar with the Monterey Peninsula as I visited the Big Sur coast and Monterey/Carmel many times over the 25+ years that I lived in Los Angeles, and then lived for 5-years on the water in Pacific Grove. It is my favorite place to be, and as I now live in Maine, I looked forward to being once again in this place that I deeply love. What is wonderful about visiting Monterey is that nothing is very far from anything else. At Alena's condo, the Route 1 freeway is very quickly accessible to Carmel and points south, and downtown Monterey and Fisherman's Wharf is just a few minutes. Alena left some nice amenities of food and wine, and communicated well with us. We enjoyed having the full kitchen and washer/dryer. It was well priced. The trade-off you make for the price is that you are choosing comfortable housing without the expense but also the immediate outdoor beauty you might find in other locations in this region. However, if you want those locations, you will also pay for them. I was completely happy with the accommodations and would happily return again. We were comfortable when we were "home," and we spent all our time out because I was introducing my Maine native lover Jill to all of the fantastic beauty that this region has to offer. We spent 8-days, and it was simply not enough because there is so much to do... We went kayaking in the Elkhorn Slough with sea otters and seals; hiked in Garrapata and Andrew Molera State Parks; shopped in Carmel and spent a delicious evening on Carmel Beach with dolphins and a gorgeous sunset; walked the recreation trail between Monterey and Pacific Grove and around the point to Asilomar Beach; enjoyed spa time at Refuge in Carmel Valley; spent a day hiking deeper in Carmel Valley; walked in the fantastically gorgeous Point Lobos State Park; sunset dinner at Nepenthe overlooking the fantastic blue Pacific with migrating whales; went to the Aquarium (make sure to do the backend tour); if you like to dance, go to Sly McFly's down by the Wharf, especially if MoneyBand is playing... it's a great mix of locals and visitors; Jill enjoyed the consignment stores in Pacific Grove; see the Farmer's Market in Monterey on Tuesday afternoons. Sighhhhhhhhh... we did so much, and there was so much we did not get to do. We loved it! You will too.
