Casa de las Cascadas is a gorgeous 3-bedroom modern home, with 1-bedroom 'apartment', located in a gated community in central Manuel Antonio. There are both ocean and mountain views, and lots of wildlife in the area.

The main home is designed for indoor/outdoor living; the upper 2 bedrooms access the living area/pool via an outdoor, covered breezeway. There is AC in the bedrooms only. No TVs.

Great spaces, great privacy, 2 pools and easy access to both Quepos and Manuel Antonio beach!

El lugar

Award winning design by renowned Costa Rican architect Andres Morales--a modern tropical home with a working waterfall, 20-foot windows in the living area, and a covered breezeway connecting the upper bedrooms. Located in a gated community in Manuel Antonio, it sits on 2.5 acres of lush gardens. There are exceptional views of the mountains, jungle and ocean, and tons of local wildlife. Just 5 minutes to Quepos and the Pez Vela marina, or 8 minutes to the public beach and national park.

The home is in fact a 3-bedroom home with a studio apartment below the master wing. There are two levels in the main house: 2 bedrooms on the upper level--a master with a king bed, private bath, walk-in closet and wrap-around balcony, and a guest room with a queen bed, private bath and walk-in closet, & 1 bedroom on the lower level with 2 double beds, a private bath, and sitting area with direct access to the waterfall pool. The apartment is accessed via a short garden path from the downstairs foyer, or bedroom. It has a queen bed, kitchenette, sitting area, covered balcony and private bath.

Water flows through center of house and pours over a waterfall into the lower pool. The upper pool has great sunset and mountain views, and there is also a barbecue grill (for Dad!). The sparsely-populated community offers great areas for morning walks--and even a longer hike to a little-known beach. The community is gated with a guard 24/7. There is a covered parking area for 2 cars on the lower level.

It's pertinent to note a couple of things: There is AC in the bedrooms only--not in the living area upstairs. The house was designed for indoor/outdoor living and air flow, but still can get hot during the peak of the dry season (ie Feb-Apr). Also--while there is a phone and wireless internet, there are no TVs at Casa de las Cascadas--but then again, why visit Costa Rica and watch TV??? ;)

Note: The home may be rented out as a 3-bedroom home, in which case the apartment is NOT rented out separately (ie the property is all yours!)

One of the most beautiful views, even in the rainy season. The infinity pool and scenic glass walls provide outside views as a theater, no matter where you are in the house. We saw a toucan, iguanas, and loads of exotic birds during our 3 night stay at the house. Vanessa was very friendly and helpful, meeting us for check-in. We did not take advantage of many of the services offered with the house, but there were many. This is one of the best values and most beautiful places I have ever stayed.

I rate Casa Cascadas a 5 star because we unfortunately had to deal with a hurricane. The roads were washed out and rivers were out of their banks. Vanessa and Kent were amazing helping us and clueing us in on the details of the future trip we were trying to take on the way to the home. Realizing it was not safe and there were not guarantees for a timely return because of our flights we did not end up getting there. They were so helpful and so attentive to our needs and most importantly our safety. I recommend this home to future tourists and I know that they will be just as attentive to your needs.

After three days into our week long stay, we had no water. Nine people staying in the house with no water to use for showers, toilets, meal preparation, etc. We had no choice, but to dine out the evening the water system failed despite having just spent money at the farmer's market for food for dinner, etc.. The property manager did not respond to any of our emails for assistance. That was the most infuriating. Fortunately, the property manager hired a concierge that was quite responsive even on her day off! She clearly went our her way to assist us. She made sure we had drinking water during the entire stay plus facilitated arrangements for zip lining, white water rafting and a trip to the spice plantation. We eventually, had water restored, but not for long. Thank goodness our stay was only a week long. If it had not been for the efforts of the concierge, the stay would turned into a nightmare as the property manager, Kent, made no effort to rectify the water situation nor did he even provide us with the courtesy of responding to our emails.

Respuesta de Kent:
Hi Darise--I'm Kent Thompson, and I'm the property manager at Casa de las Cascadas. Firstly, let me apologize for the challenges you had with water while you were here. The issue was totally unforeseen, affected the entire development, and was completely beyond our control. Furthermore, it happened on a Sunday, when most people are away enjoying their family day, and it is nearly impossible to get anything done. However--I also think there is a misunderstanding about my efforts, and don't want future guests to think that I or anyone on my team are irresponsible. I never received any emails from you, nor missed calls. A lot was going on behind the scenes also--I was coordinating with the manager of the development, who was bringing in tankers of water to fill the tanks, as well as the maintenance staff, who kept a constant watch on the system. I was also coordinating to send you 5-gal jugs of water in the mean time (a couple of which came from my personal store, I might add). Lastly, it should be noted that during this whole water crisis, someone in your group left a spigot outdoors on and drained both reserve tanks, wasting not only Casa de las Cascada's water, but also water that could have been rationed in other homes. Nevertheless, I know it is not easy to be on vacation with water issues, and for that I apologize greatly. If you do choose to return in the future, we will be sure you are well tended, with a good discount, and plenty of water, to boot. Sincerely, Kent
