David's place is a wonderful place to retreat to after a day of seeing the sites. It is in Calca, a lovely town that is not over run by tourists. However it is easy to get to any of the more touristy towns and archaeological sites. David and Mabel were very welcoming and helpful. On my fist night Mabel invited me to go to a yoga class. It was a great start to my Peruvian adventure! David and Mabel are very resourceful and are happy to answer questions, and arrange for transportation. They have a beautiful, relaxing garden and friendly dogs that run up to greet you. If you would like a quiet place to step away from intense mass tourism, this is the place to stay.

Great place to hang out, garden courtyard in particular. Interact with people from all over the world. Shared kitchen with access to organic produce and meat through David and his wife. I was there a month and now feel I have a family in Peru to go back to! Wonderful experience, will never forget it!

If you want a safe, chill place to relax in and acclimate before going to Machu Picchu or other places in the sacred valley, this is it. We've been traveling for four months and this was by far one of the best airbnbs we've stayed at in South America. We nicknamed it the secret garden. David and Mabel were super hospitable the whole time and really fun to talk to. Inviting us into their home for food and drinks right after we arrived. They gave us good directions to tell a taxi driver how to find their location too. Our room was nice and felt private, the hot water worked in the shower, and their big yard was filled with hammocks and tables to relax in and get to know others who are staying their. We stayed at David's for a week and during that time made several friends who we still talk to through (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN). Their WIFI worked decently as well, I was able to load internet pages reasonably fast and get things done, however only while sitting in the courtyard. It didn't work in our room because we were too far away from the router. The communal kitchen has literally everything you need to cook with and numbered bins and a fridge to put your food in. You can stock up on food in the local market, however Calca is a small poor town and you will find nothing refrigerated. David will tell you about some local safe restaurants including a delicious ceviche place. We ate there three times. Overall, this was a wonderful experience. Again, Calca is a very small town and a perfect escape from other places in the sacred valley that cater to tourists.

From the moment we arrived at David's we felt part of the family. David was having a BBQ in celebration of his birthday. He made sure we met everyone there, family and guests, and we were all invited to a wonderful home cooked meal. Our room was quite elegant and the bathroom was the best we have seen in Peru so far! The house has an amazing garden full of flowers and trees. There is also a big kitchen for the use of the guests. During our entire stay we felt welcome, safe and comfortable. If it wasn't for prepaid reservations in Cusco, we would have definitely extended our stay. We had a wonderful time and we were sad to leave. Thank you David and family for having us!

David arranged for a driver to pick us up at the Cusco Airport...he was right on time and took us straight to Casa Wilkamayo where David greeted my family of 5 at the front door and showed us around this slice of paradise hidden behind an unassuming gate. The facility is better than described, for not only is it beautiful, but it's very clean and safe. The access to a community kitchen, laundry, and garden was perfect and my boys even learned chess! You can walk to almost everything in Calca, and it is a place almost void of tourists so this is a true Andean community, where you can buy an armful of vegetables, fruits, eggs and bread for about $5. Tuk tuks are everywhere if you prefer to use transportation. David and his wife advised us of 2 hikes, one easy /one hard which we will be forever grateful for...Huchey Cusco from Lamay (just hopped on a "Collectivo" that was heading that direction to get to this 2 hour trail) and an Incan Museum that went by some ruins. The neighborhood is not nearly as nice as this home, but it is typical of the whole town and not far from the 2 main plazas. We never felt unsafe in the town or neighborhood, but would typically be inside by 10 pm. This is a perfect rest or an excellent "central point" for your explorations of the Sacred Valley. This is the type of place that you would feel comfortable staying for a lengthy period of time and indeed we met others doing so!
