Out of hundreds of highly satisfied customers, you will always have those who will find things to make an issue of. This guest violated several house rules, and had the expectation of having the entire home to herself. Ms. Gautreaux booked her room for herself, however, an unregistered male guest spent several nights during the week. After her arrival the house rules was reviewed with the guest and she continued to have the gentlemen spend the night. As a host it is my responsibility to keep all guest safe which is why the requirement for all guest to be registered with your reservation is important. Besides the fact that this is blatantly stealing from your host, it can make other guest feel uncomfortable. As a female, I host professional women and many specifically ask if any men will be staying during their reservation. Guest are encouraged to read the attached listing information prior to booking so they may choose if this airbnb is suitable for them. In a multi guest home it is important to keep the temperature to on that fits the comfort of all guest and not just one person. Even if this guest had that problem, she did not ask at any time for the temperature to be changed.
This guest reported fruit flies in her room. Upon inspection a window was open at the top and needed to be closed. On a later date, the guest stated that she had a window that was cracked which her and her boyfriend weren't able to fix. Unfortunately, I did not check it myself. I assumed by cracked she was referring to a crack in the frame and not that the window just needed to be closed, especially since they both weren't able to fix it. A handyman was called to look at the window and the guest was notified without any response for 3 days. Ms. Gautreaux became angry when she found fruit flies in the kitchen trash can on Thursday. She did not realize that her unauthorized boyfriend had left his takeout leftovers in the trash since Monday which is what attracted the fruit flies. In an effort to be a good host Terminix was called to and they stated that the only treatment for fruit flies is not leaving food out. She was the only guest who experienced this, and I did not have any problems either being that I live in the basement. Her complaints ranged from a white spot on her bedding which was washing powder ( I still went up and changed it) to the grocery store, to the Apple TV which is listed (there is cable on television downstairs).
The final straw for me was her stating that as a "white woman" she didn't feel safe. Imagine that. The same person who was sneaking a man in a single woman's house several nights a week. The majority of guests are Caucasian and have a blast attending concerts at the nearby amphitheater. People of all cultures, gender, or socioeconomic backgrounds are treated EQUAL in my home. Even though this comment was by far unprofessional and rude, it was still humorous as Ms. Gautreaux is half French and half Panamanian (Panamanians originate from Africa lol). A cancellation of this reservation was granted ASAP as that energy/behavior will not be tolerated at this Airbnb. The beauty of it all is that the same day another guest booked the same room for a month and has been a great pleasure. It's so beautiful how the Universe works. All in all, most guest are a pleasure and I enjoy offering reasonable prices for professionals.
