No ofrecemos comidas regulares.

This is a very unusual space. Please read on before you book.

This place has been a luxury hotel charging 150-500$ per night. A place once visited by presidents slowly declined after the Bali bombings and closed a few years ago.

Our goal is to protect the breathtaking natural heritage of the lake area by promoting sustainable tourism. We got the unique opportunity to reopen the place and invite guests to explore the real Bali, far away from mass tourism.

We are starting by renting out the villas, because they are still in very good shape. We have large gardens and beautiful views. We currently use the swimming pool to grow fish. We aim to produce all the food on the property. You are welcome to catch your own dinner. Let's walk through our garden to collect vegetables and herbs and prepare an unforgettable dinner around the fire place.

We will prepare a breakfast for you (pancakes and warm drinks). You can always come for a drink to the main building. There we also have low-speed wifi, it's good enough for mails and booking the next stop, but don't expect to stream videos (who would want do do that anyway if you can sit around a fireplace).

We don't offer regular meals. If you want we can also prepare a dinner for you and spend the evening around the fire place. Otherwise there is a small meat ball soup (bakso) shop right in front of the hotel and two restaurants with international dishes a bit up the road (300 and 600 meters).

We are not educated in tourism and just friendly people who want you to feel at home in our place. We are very happy for any feedback how to make the place better.
We are constantly improving the place. Even though you are staying in a luxury resort, don't expect butlers and pool boys. For now it's just some rustic villas in a beautiful environment.

Had an amazing stay at this place. Very beautiful place in the mountains away from everything. Great waterfalls nearby. I would recommend bringing your own motorbike since it really helped with our trip. The roads in the mountain are really well maintained as well. Would definitely stay here again!

The location is remote and fine to get to water temple and munduk, but there is nothing much else around. The grounds itself is interesting and the potential is there, but as previous reviewer mentioned, I don't think it is quite ready in terms of amenities, communication and service. For those that have difficulty walking, do not go here as the main path to the villas is uneven and there was very little lighting making it easy to twist and ankle. There were no lights to the room our outside the villa, so we used our phone lights. I don't expect the place to be flooded with light, but enough that is it no dangerous or creepy. The villa itself was nice enough with a nice view, but the old odor was almost too much to bear and there were no fans or mosquito nets to allow even opening the doors. Tho toilet was flush kind, it was dirty tho no smell. The most negative part of the experience was trying to communicate with the staff and the young man who was left to seemingly run the place. He did the best he could, but English was not good enough to be left alone there. He called owner once, who seemed rushed and didn't seem interested in communicating with me. Owner seems ok via email, but not otherwise and no where to be found. We had to go pretty far down the road to get a motorbike, but brakes were bad and tires were bald, so be careful to check it out. The closest food place was not good. You need transport if your staying here.

Papajero and his family are great and we felt like family by the end of our stay. The people in the village are so friendly and we enjoyed everything there. We had a wonderful (short hike) to the the twin waterfall, listened to live music by Papajero and his buddies and really got an authentic exporting on Bali

Yudi was a wonderful host and the villa had everything we had hoped for and more (yay hot water). This place is not your typical Bali Villa so if that is what you are looking for, perhaps not for you. But it is a look at the real Bali and the locals are kind and the hiking is excellent!

Upon arriving to Wanagiri, we decided not to stay in these villas. The room was damp and sheets dirty. They also were not prepared for us, because their internet was down. We found another hotel in Munduk. We do with Papajero and his family all the best as they renovate the resort, and think that this space would be fine for backpackers for a night or two!

We loved absolutely the villas. If your looking for a place that's a little bit off the beaten path, this is it. We were able to do an awesome hike from here and then finish our day with a shorter hike down to the most beautiful waterfall. Papajero and his friends play music and serve delicious food every night at the family. We'd highly recommend making a stop here while you're in Bali!

Papajero and his family are very gracious and made our experience in the mountains that much better. The view and the hotel are breathtaking, the waterfall is a trek but definitely worth it, Papajero drove us to the water temple and waited while we walked the grounds and took photos. He is happy to answer any questions and quick to make his guests feel happy and at home. The villa and the grounds are a site, you can see that this used to be a very prestigious hotel and Papajero is working on making it what it once was.

Acerca de Papajero

I was born and raised in our beautiful village called Wanagiri. Wana means forest and giri means mountains - and that's what you will find here!
My family used to be farmers until we were displaced from our land. With the help and encouragement from several kind travelers we started hosting backpackers who wanted to explore the rural parts of Bali. We started to run a restaurant, then a guesthouse and a few months ago we got the amazing opportunity to rent our the beautiful villas of a once luxurious hotel.

Wanagiri is on the edge of an ancient volcanic crater overlooking two lakes. There are hidden temples and secluded waterfalls in the surrounding jungles and it seems every time we go for a hike we explore something new. But sadly the people are illegally cutting trees and carry them out of the forest to make a few dollars. We want to show them that the forest is much more valuable as a whole. Our goal is to protect the forests with sustainable tourists so that many more people can explore the beauty of the mountains.

We made hiking maps, experimented with menus for our guests and gave English classes to the kids in the village. We are figuring out ways to recycle and dispose the plastic rubbish, because we believe the plastic problem can only be solved if we start on the top and try to keep the rivers clean.

As our guest you are invited to be part of our family. I live with my wife, Mama Jero, my daughter Koming and our granddaughter Yuna, in the guest house.
