Rita's place and the location were really good. Our biggest problem was checking in and communication. Rita speaks little to no English. We came to the island expecting to check-in to her place, but even though we had been talking by email for a week she seemed surprised we had arrived. She said we hadn't booked properly so we stayed in a hotel for 70 euros that 1st night. I was able to book properly that night, but she said we still couldn't check-in until after 5. She directed us to her shop so she could give us a key. It took us almost 40 min to find it. No one we asked knew where it was and the streets around it are for pedestrians so we had to walk there in the rain with our bags. When we arrived the first thing Rita said was we hadn't paid. I tried to tell her I had when I booked, but we couldn't understand one another. We waited almost an hour then to figure things out. It turned out she hadn't pressed the button to confirm our reservation so it appeared we hadn't paid. During this time period, her daughter who spoke some English came and picked us all up and took us to the house. Once there I got her to press accepto and she finally believed I had paid. Her daughter and her were speaking in fast and loud Italian the whole time we were trying to figure all of this out. This was my 1st airbnb experience so I really didn't know what to expect. The whole experience was very stressful. She did leave a few croissants and some milk in a bag on the door the next morning, which was nice. That being said, otherwise the fridge was empty. There was also no soap anywhere. Not even hand soap. Based on other reviews I was pretty surprised about this because other people seemed to have a much better experience. Other reviews said Rita had left some provisions in the fridge, but maybe this depends on when you stay.
We stayed for 3 nights. The place is as described and the balcony is amazing. There isnt much of a view, but the balcony was nice to have. The bed is okay. The pillows we had were pretty non-existent. I don't think I have ever had a flatter pillow. Thankfully we had some of those airplane pillows with us. The room is also not very quiet so if that is a problem for you, be aware. I think 2/3 days I woke up to what sounded like a heated discussion between Rita and maybe her daughter before 8am. Overall, the place itself is really nice and the price was good. It was just that our experience there was just not the greatest.
